blaine given the eye

Postby magicdiscoman » Dec 2nd, '03, 09:40

david blaine was on this morning 2/11/03, he must have been reading our posts because post tupperware box he seems to have turned over a new leaf and decided to be less mystical and more sensible.
i didnt catch all of the show but eamon homes did pull the eye on hand trick on blaine throughout the interview two years late which blaine took in his stride, i for one have gained some new respect for the man he even joked about replacements and special ways he got in and out of his box, a vary nice interview one i was happy to sit through.

Damn, I wish I had seen that, did he have anything to say about his magic?

I saw only the first part of this and, whilst I didn't see any magic, it confirmed that David can be a normal guy who is not afraid of sending himself up a little. He was very into all the secrets of how he survived in the box, said he'd used a double who was changed over secretly whilst the box was being cleaned, and that it was he himself who was throwing paint balls and stuff at the box. All pure hokum, of course, but very refreshing. Dammit, I'm beginning to like him again! Good PR appearance.

Brought my post on the subject over here as this thread didn't exist when I wrote it, yet this is far more appropiate a place for it :) So I've copied it below.

Did Ya see Blaine interviewed on GMTV this morning. He actually talked this time but as Eamon pointed out, David had become more famous among many people for that Interview than for his magic. As always David being the master publicist.

What I did find interesting was David's take on the spectators for the box stunt. He reckoned they were great and it was the press that to keep the stories interesting had followed all the negative stuff.
So all you Blaine haters may well have to put up with him doing another UK stunt at some point in the future

BLAINE: MY STUNT 'SHAM' Image

David Blaine has been talking for the first time on British television about spending 44 days in a box suspended near the River Thames in London.
The illusionist apparently survived on nothing more than water.
Blaine claimed his stunt had been a sham - but then said he was only joking.
When asked by Eamonn Holmes on GMTV to reveal how he did it, Blaine claimed he had never been in the box at all.

Stunts 'Faked'
"I've got a top secret. I've got a Pakistani double. He was in there the whole time. He had longer hair and was really skinny."
He then laughed it off, saying: "I would never do something like that, I couldn't do that."
Blaine hinted he had faked previous stunts, including spending a week buried alive in a coffin.
Then he gave another explanation for his 44 days in the box.
He said: "I was sneaking in and out every four hours.
"The top looked like glass but it was a hologram glass made out of glucose." But then he added: "I'm just joking."

Public sex
The New Yorker revealed he had almost quit over a stunt by one radio DJ who encouraged people to bombard him with noise.
Blaine said: "The only thing I heard was ding-da-ding-ding-ding for 24 hours straight. If he had done it for another half a day I would have quit instantly, I couldn't take it.
Blaine said the most shocking thing about his 44-day stunt was seeing a couple have sex in front of him.
"If I was to do it again I would have a camera in there so everybody could have seen what I saw," he said.

That report is totally Cr**. A complete twist on what was really said.

I'm not going to take it point by point, but lets for instance take the first one.

"Blaine claimed his stunt had been a sham"

Did he? I heard the whole thing and he never he mentioned the word sham, let alone claimed his stunt was one. Yes he spoke tongue in cheek, about the way's he had done it, but if the writer of the report needed Blaine to tell him he was joking, then perhaps he needs to get another Job.

Yeah I wouldn't ever want to rely on sky for my news.
I just thought it was interesting their take on it,
1, from what has been said earlier it sounded quite presumptious (?)
2, is it me or is that not news anyway?
lol

It does though show the grip on the media the man has sometimes.

I'd say it was definitely News, just not accurate news.

Again he said
"Blaine said the most shocking thing about his 44-day stunt was seeing a couple have sex in front of him."

Now anyone that saw it can correct me if I'm wrong, but my memory of it was that he gave this as an example of the kind of thing that was going on late at night and even implied that far from being the most shocking this was the thin end of the wedge. In fact if I got the impression that there was also more than one couple that had sex in front of him.

Anyhow the real issue was that Blaine in no way claimed the thing was a sham.

Good, so it's not just me then. So did he say?

"Blaine said the most shocking thing about his 44-day stunt was seeing a couple have sex in front of him."

If so, I wonder what the couple did that was more shocking than the other couples.

Sorry, I meant the couple mentioned, they could tell us why they were more shocking than the rest. Sorry for any confusion.

Ah Nickj I see where you were coming from. However it's the journalist that would need to answer the question, since David Blaine never claimed any particular couple did the most shocking thing.
