Dribbling cards...

Postby SilverTab » Oct 5th, '06, 05:10

I know it's supposed to be an easy flourish...But even though I keep practicing it, I'm just not good at dribbling cards!... It always starts out good but when I get towards the end of the deck big chunks starts to fall instead of just a few cards like it started...I dont know if it's my grip, or the amount of pressure I put on the top....But it's just not coming out good...!

Anyone has any tips?? It's getting frustrating LOL I can do D/L, false shuffle, control cards etc.. but dribbling...grrrrr

I find dribbling from the corners is better for me, using my thumb and ring finger. Index finger bent on top of the cards and middle finger on the top edge. The action is a slight bend and slowly part thumb and ring finger.

Dribbling certainly isn't VERY easy as a flourish but is relatively simple.

Take the deck in mechanics grip, then put it into dribble grip:

1) The right hand picks up the deck
2) Ring finger and pinky on the top short end of the deck.
3) Thumb in bottom left short end of the deck.
4) Index finger on the left long side with a little part of the index finger muscle on the top card (To create slight pressure)
5) Middle finger can on the top card or not (can be used for slight pressure if wanted)
The deck should be in quite a strong grip now.
6) Index finger applies slight pressure to the top of the deck to create a slight concavity.
7)Slowly release pressure off the thumb and the ringer and pinky to release the cards one by one.

Voila! :D Hope this helps! Doing the dribble this way allows the dribble to be very long! I can manage about 2-3 feet :).

Seconded

I tend to find that cards fall off in chunks when they are worn, or are sticky/dirty if they are put down onto an unclean surface. I find that I can often have a similar problem with fanning if the card surfaces pick up dirt and grime.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Make sure you keep even pressure on the deck throughout the whole thing.

Maybe I'll make a website with explanations of basic flourishes :D

This is interesting!
Sorry to sway off topic, but I find it's great how British people use proper names for the fingers; thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring finger and pinky.
I have a few DVDs where the magic teachers use words as: 1st finger, 2nd finger, 3rd finger etc. They are not always the same fingers, depending on if they call the thumb or the index finger the 1st finger and they don't always count from the same side, which becomes extremely confusing and frustrating.
I just realised when I read Steve's reply that most of my DVDs come from USA. :)
I have several Swedish and at least 1 British one, but the confusing fingers are from USA...
