Dai Vernon, a man who influenced the 20th century

Postby J0kerz » Oct 6th, '06, 18:16

Hi there

For a history project at school, I had to choose one person who influenced the 20th century. I finally chose: Dai Vernon. I think this man is very important in the magic history and he brought the entertainement to a new level. I just wanted to know if you guys have any good website, books, informations that could help me with my project. I already heard of the new book " Dai Vernon, A biography", this book seem to have alot of infos but it's kinda expensive.

Thanks in advance,

Fine choice for a history project! Try http://www.abebooks.com, which is a network of new and used book dealers. You can find some really great deals. Web searches might kick up some stuff. Louis Ganson is probably the best source on Vernon. There are also some encyclopedia type books on magic at libraries that would have something. You could also try the British Library. Microfiche collections of newspapers may also have something on his performances.

Go to the Genii Forum. His son is posting there now. No doubt he would have some information for you.

I second Dr. Todd's suggestion. The magician and the cardsharp is a wonderful book - it will tell you quite a bit about his life in magic - as well as his adventures through seedy underground games, looking for new sleights.

Excellent read!
