I bought an ITR at blackpool last year. Its been a while and i am still yet to use it. I just can't seem to master the art of th***d in any way. I ahve been told by some magician friends to master the Z grip which i experimented with but still to no avail. I really would like to perform the helicopter card and other simialr effects but there is too much snapp-age (i made a word up) and awkwardness when i even try and practice..... i feel i should jus give up.

Any tips on practising would be greatly appreciated, also if anyone could suggest DVD's and books which could help me, i will look into it.

There are certainly one or two existing threads (sorry!) in the use of IT and/or ITR but the Search function may not find them as we don't use the key words in full! No doubt someone will be able to find a link or two for you.

If you can't master this... there's a lot of stamps to be collected out there!

more about hookups than itr, but i have Jon LeClair's Who's Afraid Of IT and found it pretty good

ITs get on my nerves as they feel strange but must say if you get it down to a t they can make you look amazing. one day i will have another go at this but found breakage a problem too

anyway - there's a good and cheap booklet on cards4magic.co.uk, around four of your earth pounds...hook ups, history and routines...

and there's a dvd from alakazam (amongst others) for around a tenner, its called "IT DVD - Magic's Secrets Exposed DVD Series" - that's very good, and has quite a pretty brunette on there too...

i recently bought a ITR wizard from emagictricks for thirteen quid, and its superb...

I think that covers it without exposure...

BEFORE you use an ITR or if you want to use thread for any effect you need
1. Confidence in the thread.
2. Obtaining this. Use ordinary STRONG thread, WHITE ( so you can see it) when you first try out any moves or handling.
3. WHEN you know the handling/moves then graduate to mono filament, for further practice. After this go on to IT, occasionally testing it to the limit so you know its breaking strain.
It's a longer road but it pays in the end.
Too many magicians expect to master IT straightway. Often they are hamfisted and the constant breaking causes them to give up.

I use one and with some practice it's fairly easy to master.
I think the effect you're talking about is one that requires a loop to made.
I bought mine off www.magictricks.co.uk and it came with a little booklet which showed how to do the loop and also recommends some books and DVD's.
It only cost me £4.50 off there and is great value, though the device does make a bit of noise.

Oh Dear , My Lord Freddie, didn't your pater & mater tell you that the rip off ITR's made in India will always make a noise. You'll also find the 'line' breaks easily and is difficult, sometimes impossible to repair.
Never buy cheap if it's going to be used in front of The Public.
In the case of ITR's always buy the originals put out by the inventor, James George of The Sorcery Shop.
Oh dear again.
And by the way the 'mechanics' of using it may be easy BUT to use it in an undetectable & exciting routine is, you'll find, rather difficult. Rehearse long & hard otherwise you WILL give the game away.

Well the noise can be concealed if handled correctly as it's most aparrent when the string winds back in.
As for snapping, I have not had a breakage whilst using it at all and find this device good for practising and also for levitating rings, which I have done a number of times without detection. I use this one impromptu but NOT on stage as it does have it's limitations.
You seem overtly condident, is the Sorcery Shop one the best you can buy?
What is your opinion on the spider?

Lord Freddie, How on earth do you conceal the noise from a spectator? I've had 6 or 7 of the Indian ITR's and it would take a brass band to hide the noise, well almost.
Every time i have to go back to the Sorcery Shop models. YES they are the BEST. My favourite is still the one that most magicians do not care for. The Standard which is 6 inches long x half an inch wide,and has never let me down in the 16 years I've used it.Somehow the 'line' in this seems stronger and it holds more. I also like the Micro which is 4 inches long and slim as a pencil. I cannot get on with the one which is praised..the Thread Boss. It just breaks. For details see JB Magic's big catalogue.
I've not seen Miskal's The Spider but be careful, anything which is even slightly more complicated than the original probably has more things that can go wrong with it.
