Dream Bag

The Effect
There are only a few different things I know of that you can do with the dream bag but I'm sure there are plenty more. One thing you can do is to start of by showing the paper bag completely empty. You then ask a spectator to name any colour they like, let's say blue. You remove a green silk from the bag and say “Close enough” then produce a box with two paper flowers in it you then show the bag empty. Another spectator names a colour, let's say orange. You pull a white silk from the bag, “close enough” you say and produce another box from the bag showing it empty afterwards. The last spectator is asked to name a colour; at this point I usually pull a yellow silk from the bag and wave it about at the top. Surprisingly enough they say yellow, a final box is produced from the bag and show the bag empty. You can then pile all the boxes up and show the boxes next to the bag showing they cannot all possibly fit in there. Another idea is to have a spectator select a card. You show the bag empty and ask them what there favourite colour is, they name it. Sometimes the colour may be right, but usually it will be wrong so you say “I didn't get the colour right but I think I got the correct card”. You produce a box with paper flowers in it but more importantly, containing the spectators card. You are supplied with the boxes and bag but not silks.

Review
It's a really good effect that usually comes in two sizes, small and large( obviously mistress  ) I've got the smaller one which is fine for close up and would still be okay on a small stage. The bag is completely examinable, however I would be too wary about letting the boxes out of my sight.
Overall
I really like this effect and always get a good reaction. It suppose it does suit me due to the flowery boxes. I doubt if it would be suitable for a serious performance. It's very easy to perform and a really great effect. 10/10

I was going to review this, but as it came up on the search function, I will just add to it.

I bought the smaller version from Practical magic for £30 about 3 years ago. It was easy enough that I let my son, who was seven at the time, practice and use it for a couple of shows. the only reason I have stopped using it, is that it has started to look tatty. I will buy the larger version next time, as i think it would look more effective on stage.

One thing about the effect not mentioned, is the fact that you can have the bag folded up on the table earlier in a show, adding to the perception that it is empty.

I use it for a childrens show, being me, I wanted something different from the instructions about producing silks.
I would use a child from the audience, showing the empty bag, then get them to wave a wand over it. I would then ask them to take the flowers from the bag. There wouldn't be any, of course. I would then reach in and produce a box of flowers. This would be the same for the second and third boxes.
After I take out the third box, They would wave the wand over the bag again. I would then tip the bag, to empty about 10 single spring flowers, which I had loaded under the last bag, before the show. ( I just used the flowers from a flower wallet.)

This made it into a "sucker" effect, but with the advantages of:
A, using someone from the audience.

B, they would end up producing more flowers from the final load, thus "beating" the magician, which means that they don't go away feeling "had".
With practice, you can even use it as a change bag for single silks. It doesn't look as prop like as a normal change bag and you can still produce the boxes at the end.

I like the idea from the mistress of magic about the card in a box though. Now it's got me thinking about a torn and restored effect.

There must be other things to hide in there, maybe with a patter about a shopping list, then reach into the empty bag and produce it.

As they look like small fish tanks, you could take the flowers out and replace them with fish cut outs, and make it look like there are some aquarium plants in there maybe?

One last note, when you take the boxes out, stack them on each other next to the bag. That will look better, as they come to the same height as the paper bag.
