hey guys. I'm having trouble with triumph.

i can do all before and all after the strip. when you "square the cards" and split them, I'm having trouble with the "split" all the cards appear to be really tight and when i pull them out the cards jst end up in a big messs.

any tips.? thanks

when preforming always have a loose grip

Yeah, I'm assuming you mean the part where you do the zarrow shuffle and have to separate the two packs before interweaving them.

The thing about this move is that if you're too stiff, it'll be very obvious as to what you're doing in the first place.

If you're having trouble loosening up, try holding the packs near the ends while you're peeling them - this will automatically cause the cards to lose tension near the center.

Also, try to make it smooth; think clockwise and counterclockwise motions rather than out and back in.

Good deck condition helps a lot

well if its the squaring then what u need to do is really just push with your fore finger the "upside down" packet into the other one without holding the "normal one" this does most the work for you and all u ahve to do is square in the right procedure.

the thing is i thought i was rubbish at it untill i did it and its amazing what ull get away with specially when u act with the whole squaring thingand your fingers cover what your doing!

Just go and perform it on some1 trust me its amazing.

I adaptd the zarrow shuffle the bit where you shuffle the cards through the strip them out the other end i dont do that bit i just do the shuffle so the cards do what they spose to. i also dont do the bit where you show the the multiple packets and bring them back to the deck. Like brad teachies on the ellusionest video. i just pick the deck up and cut through to show the cards all mixed.

Is difficult not to disclose the trick, but here’s a couple of tips that I use when performing:

The riffle - do two corners only, makes the strip easier. I found that holding the long sides of the deck for the shuffle instead of the shorts, makes the rest of he illusion easier.

Preparing the Push - (assuming spectator card on left) before the pickup, push the top right card forward slightly as this allows for more cover of the “move”.

The Pickup - I always pause here till to show the cards mixed and pickup when the spectator looks up.

Another tip - slightly bend the cards before the trick as makes locating the “back to back” cards easier.

Forgive me if this is a little off topic, but just yesterday, I was looking through Scarne on Card Tricks and realized that the effect in Scarne's Knock Out Card Trick is almost exactly the same as in Triumph. I still think triumph is a little better (one of Scarne's moves is pretty easily questioned) but anyone who owns the book should check it out. I found it pretty iteresting how many well known effects are in that book, but with a different name and method.

By the way, make sure you are not pressing down on top of the halves with your first finger.

From your description, I gather that you are doing Vernon's triumph-shuffle, (Strip-out) not the Zarrow-shuffle?

In that case, as others have said here, use new or good-condition cards. Riffle softly, without bending the cards too much. Use a loose grip. Just before the strip-out, it helps to "air" the cards: If you press slightly on the long side of the deck, the cards separate slightly, reducing the friction.
