I used one of the these for years. It is a very good effect, a few problems but nothing major. The 'something' will last for many performances and you can order another one direct.

So it's worth the money then? Can it be used on a stage or is the apparatus too small?

It would work on stage, size isn't a factor - after all, with mentalism it's NEVER about the props .
