Printing your own cards

Postby Skullclaw » Oct 16th, '06, 15:32

ive been creating new effects using gaff cards etc that i have printed using my cheap inkjet printer, however the way i am doing it takes time and i was wondering if anyone has any of thier own techniques to share. At the moment i am having to use wire wool to remove the gloss off the blank bicycle cards so that my printer can print on them, does anyone know of a printer which can print directly on to the gloss without it rubbing off later or the print being faint. For example, do printers which can print digital photos work well on blank cards? Any ideas, techniques or advice would be appreciated.

Playing cards are DESIGNED to be non-pourous, mainly to save them from oils and moisture from your hands.

This also makes them pretty resilient to adding ink from an inkjet printer.

Another method is to use iron-on T-shirt transfer paper. Although this also kills the card surface.

Have had a look at the other thread however it isnt very helpful for what i want to know, i have found since posting that laser printers will no print well onto blank cards due to the gloss, it just rubs off. What i really need to know is what can be used to fix the print to the already glossy surface i.e. sone kind of spray varnish or something. I do not want to out source and pay over the odds for decks that are at the moment for personel use, i want to be able to print my own cards without the hassle of wire wool. Alternatively is there anything which would quickly remove the gloss on the cards and allow printing?
