jst curious but when you buy a book do you actually read the thing or do you expect the author to come round to your house and read the book for you? of maybe you skip the first half of the book cos it looks kinda boring and just dive in near the end when all the good stuff happens? Im guessing the answer to both questions is no so why the hell should this be any different?
We do it all the time. There was a serious text book on sociology once which had in the index 'chapter 8 sex and it's power page 231'. When you turned to that page it was 'welcome to all those who have turned straight to chapter 8' then the forward, introduction and the how to use this book bit.

How many people scan RRTCM to find a great trick only to find that they need to read the first half to be able to accomplish tricks in the second?
How many of us read every post in a long thread before putting in our point of veiw? I admit that I scan read on occasion in very long threads. I cannot say I reread every text to make sure I have not misunderstood it etc. At least not for every text in every thread I respond to.
The point is these mistakes ARE being made, and AGAIN and AGAIN. We cant make people read the rules, so we must think of a different way of letting people know what to do.
The following is my proposal
The problem as I see it is that someone new comes along and signs up when they wish to post their question. Which may be against the rules.
We could have a days delay between sign up and post, with an automatic reply sent telling them of the rules.
We could send a false thread, fake people saying hi and explaining a different rule in each message. This has the advantage of the newbe thinking they are real people and he will read with gusto every message.
something like
Hi im mike, I see your new, don't ask how tricks are done they hate that here, I did and boy were they harsh they call it exposure and belive all tricks should be paid for, which is cool I guess as those inventors of magic spend a lot of time to help us guys. Anyway once I appologised the guys were realy helpfull with prob's I had on my performance. Hope to see a post soon

Hi I'm sally, good advise from mike. We have a forum about who you are, the done thing is to make your first post about yourself, you'll find it in the introductions forum. It's kind of traditional and some old farts on this forum are more likely to post you if you do. Look forward to reading about you soon

Good point from mike, and sally I aint an old fart I just like stuff done right.
Dan here. read the rules at the top of each thread, then reread them, belive us it will make your life easier. Don't be afraid of making mistakes we don't all bite heads of nebees like yourself. Check out the reveiws section I found this the most helpful when I first joined.
Yeah agree with Dan it's about your point of veiw so don't get scared by people disagreeing with you. Best not to answer in anger, over the years my thoughts on magic have changed considerably do to the wisdom of many on this site. Respect the senior members they are usualy right ( although I did not say that ok)

etc etc etc
The point of the above is that if you got eight replies to your first thread you would read every one, and if every message just has one bit of good advise/rule in it then they will learn very quickly, the last message could read
Hi Mandrake here I'm one of the moderators,
You've just learn't a valuble lesson. The above was a magic trick. You have just learn't most of the rules, ettiquette required on this forum. These above posts are the ONLY false posts on our site, but it's the best way to get new guys like yourself to read the rules. Please go to the rules sections and please take time to learn how to use our site. We all look forward to meeting you properly very soon.
