Hello from Yoshi

Postby yoshi » Oct 20th, '06, 08:16

Thought I'd introduce myself at last.....

I was always interested in magic when I was younger, I got an Ali Bongo magic book back when I was 8 but it was rubbish....cue computer games etc. and I didn't really do any magic until I went to Magic Masters in Florida 2003, where I picked up 3 tricks.

Since then I've been pretty hooked, buying more tricks/DVDs and performing for friends, local clubs etc. for non-profit, mainly at Christmas.

However, now I am trying to make the transition to magician for hire (as it pays very well per hour). It also gives me an excuse to practice magic instead of working! I only intend to do 5-10 performances per year at weddings, corporate, parties etc.

My preference is close up magic...my favourite tricks are Upside down card in deck (audience chooses card, I then fan cards and their chosen card is face down), floating coin, disappearing coins under cards and Black & White (discs which change from b&W to colour).

My current direction is to learn such tricks as The Heckler and other non-gimmicked magic tricks. I've also just ordered the self-tying shoelaces and Subturfuge.

I supose that is where your user name of "Yoshi" came from then! In the Super Mario games "Yoshi" was the little dinosaur character, if I rember right.

I do also like the tricks you mentioned, the "B&W brass disk" colour deception trick is cool, and if you like the upside down card trick, buy an invisable deck, it is much stronger than that effect.

Anyway welcome to TM.

Cheers Leighton...yeah, Yoshi came from Mario Kart, the green guy!

The deck I refer to, is in fact the ID. It truly is an amazing trick as the reset is instant, it blows EVERYONE away.

It's prob.my favourite trick, just for audience reaction. I always get a 'what the f*ck', 'aaaaargh' or 'no no no'

I do like gimmicked tricks, I'm trying to learn some standard card magic with a standard deck and it's friggin difficult.

BTW, Sneak-A-Peak is one of my favourites also, very powerful as the seemingly ordinary deck changes to 52 Queens!

Well, I'm trying to learn right now and become a paid-magician.

I seem to get a great reaction with my gimmicked tricks, so as I said before I am trying to learn some basic colour changes, fans etc. with standard cards.

I will no doubt soon post up video of some of my tricks...in heavy training for Christmas where I will perform at parties etc. (non-profit).

I am hoping after Christmas, if I am still happy with performing and my standard of magic, to take it further into paid work.
