Street magic

Postby ultimatecreate » Oct 21st, '06, 19:36

Just wondered, thinking of hitting the streets of Bristol soon for street magic. Simply to get my confidence up. I pull a routine or two, people come over - i do one more and im all done. How would you then go about saying your all done, and you want to find a new group of people to impress. Would it not feel awkard to rush off leaving the old specs saying your all done to rush off and grab new specs, and what of ones that follow you with attempts to re-watch a trick?

I really wouldnt want to go out with more than 3/4 routines, ideally id only want 2.

Thanks, A

You will almost always get someone that follows....if they do, and you do a different routine the second time, they usually (I emphasize USUALLY) assume that you are performing new stuff for everyong, so they won't stick around to try and watch/figure out an effect.

Hit them with a closer, but before you do the effect, pretend to be done, and then as an "after thought" pull something out and say.....okay, just one more.....it is a biggie!

Just some thoughts....

I had a similar problem in Germany. I would recommend to do a finishing trick which shows them clearly that this is the end.

I usually do at the end of my routine an ACR and finish it with the pop up move. Then I give them the card and say something like: "Oh well, I hope you enjoyed the litte magic demonstration."

I drove through Bristol last Tuesday and what an experience! Road works everywhere and it took me about an hour just to cross town!

I'd avoid the area if you're driving.

True.. when im done i start putting my cards or whatever away.. 'nice meeting you.. watch out for my tv show..' then just walk away..

or sometimes.. ill turn my back and quickly set up a trick like raven or something, turn around and ask for a coin... normally they'll think im asking to borrow it for something else.. theyre more than willing to oblige..

then ill go to walk away, turn back again and say ' you know.. i just had crazy idea.. let me try this one thing before i go..'. Usually this will be the raven or balducci ( which im so surprised i still get unbelievable reactions from ) .. then after i'll act like ive just witnessed magic ' Oh my god, I cant believe that worked.. you saw that right?' this totally confuses them because now they think they've witnessed you do somthing exclusive, that you have never done before... and they just freak out..

then ialways finish with.. ' I gotta go.. that's so weird.. i really gotta go'

turn, bow head, and walk into the mist... 8)

I know... the balducci is ALIVE !!

I went through a stage where everyone seemed to know it but now its just beautiful because people have forgotten.

By the way, being the felxible man I am.. i managed to pull of the balducci last night.. while doing a handstand... reactions were great, suffice to say!! 8)

well... in answer to the question, i normally say thanks for your time, walk of to a different part of the area, leaving them amazed :)

but not to overule the above question, i also have a question for street magic. you see on videos etc. that there are big crowds of people watching, at least 15 people on many videos. how do you gain such a crowd?? :? i've been having trouble recently with people allowing me to perform to them in the street. its a real kick in the man hood!

A nice clean simple finish is Sankeys In a flash

1) signed card keepsake for spec A
2) signed coin keepsake for spec B
3) Fire in a trick for laymen freaks them out
4) a perfect way to say sorry guys that's it you have killed my cards

Its basic self working and works for me (as I'm only a dabbler in magic)
