If you're in Blackpool, go to JB Magic.

Anyone can do magic......you must be sure to select effects that suit your ability & interest level - which will change over time with practice - but there is a variety of effects that quite literally a monkey could be trained to do!

Many people will tell you they started out with little "no brainer" miracles, but progressed from there to work on sleight of hand etc.....stay with it and you will be rewareded for your effort.

Visiting a magic shop is a great way to start, they will work with you to find some items that suit you..........

JB Magic is run by Mark Mason who is an International performer and the shop is loaded with stuff at all price levels. The staff there will demo tricks for you if asked and they will eagerly take your hard earned cash in return for such miracles. Just don't go too mad and buy everything in sight!

Hello Rourkey, and welcome to TM.

Yes it's true, anyone can do magic. I even know a few pigeons and rabbits that can do magic :D

Best greetings from Iceland!

hi gunnarkr in Iceland,
i went to iceland once to see Bryan Adams in concert back in 92 and the show got cancelled cos the lights went out (Do you think this was magic!!). Luckily, he was playing 2 nights so we got to go in the second night

Hey. Welcome to TM. To answer your question, anyone can do magic. You have to develop confidence in yourself to be able to perform in public, but that will come with some time. Here's a list of books you will want to look into to get started:

Royal Road to Card Magic (this the THE BOOK for starting card magic)
Modern Coin Magic
Born to Perform (a DVD, but it has great material)
Scarne on Card Tricks

I recomend Scarne on Card Tricks because the effects in that book require no skill to do, but you will gain the confidence you will need to perform difficult effects. But it does not teach you sleights, so if you buy it, make sure you also get Royal Road to Card Magic.

No, I snuck behind the scene and pulled the plug

Actually that's quite cool that you've been here. Actually we've had a lot of concerts the last few years. I went last year to see Deep Purple, Kriss Kristoferson and The Stranglers (not in the same concert though). :)

Magic shops are very freindly places (exceptions can apply like in any industry) but for the most part you will find them helpful and able to suggest effects that are suitable for you.....be sure to answer their questions honestly. I have had freinds that have gone into shops and were nervous about admitting their skill (or lack of skill) level....they ended up with effects they either couldn't perform, or didn't understand.
