What about making an ID using black and oranged back bikes......Actually more like the brainwave deck but instead of the traditional red/blue go with orange/black

I'm not having a go at anyone - i feel you're discussing "themes" rather than effects...i could technically use cards that are Halloween in look, but unless i have a emotionally lead story around something "horrific", then the whole thing is lost...

so it won't matter what colour your ID or brainwave is, its just a "theme", which is inconsequential if the heart of the effect isn't there... :)

no one's mentioned spirit slates yet...so i will...

SPIRIT SLATES...messages from the dead, even if its something simple, given the right dressing and presentation, you have something very unsettling and haunting...especially if you're including a ritual of some kind...

but as Craig said, it's a bit late now to start planning something...i've had a few things underway since late July...got a late night Halloween gig on Tuesday, starting at 11.00pm sharp...

i will be including:
general chit-chat about the evening
A very nice Tarot effect from Geist
ouija board work (well, wee-ja from Black Hart) in conjuction with some billets and such
Some suggestion stuff with "the spirits" making objects move and heat up and so on,
A version of Stigmata and something done on Siege's Padgali (from his shop)
And a creepy victorian story that i wrote that uses Banachek's PK Touches and the above mentioned spirit slates...and...if it works out, photographic evidence, using something i've made and Ghostvisions...

looking forward to it, i might be the only one, but there you go!

I have one effect that I am working on. It involves a ghost story that lies at the heart of the effect and gives the prediction meaning.

Think about what stays with people after you are gone.

Let me jump on this bandwagon. I have just been invited to a haloween party on Friday. Didnt expect that, but they want me to do a 'small show'

Obviously, a show needs weeks if not months of practicing and I have routines I could do, that I know.. but they asked me to put a halloween spin on it :? Halloween has never been my thing

First thoughts, black deck.. rising card, no one from work has yet seen that from. erm, ghost deck 'ghost stories'.. butg I realise that props dont make magic.. so Im trying now to think up some 'halloween patter'.

All i was wondering if anyone into the halloween theme or knows much about dark scenarios could give me a good website I could read some 'spooky' tales from then I could spend the next few nights sitting up adapting my current routine using the tales I have read up on>

www.youtube.com/brum2redmagic !! Youtube Project started.. early days

Reading: Nothing right now
Studying: loving band redemption
Performing: Speechless, Stand up Monte, Coinvexed,

There are many sources of patter. I love reading books on history, murders or on local ghost stories for ideas for haloween. Check out your local library

There is a champter on mediumistic stunts in 13 steps to mentalism. Many of these would perfectly suit halloween.

If you have the bottle, try doing a ouija board totally ungimmicked using 3 or 4 specs. I did this for the first time at a Halloween show on Friday (another of my posts reviews this), and it's a great, great effect that is more magical than any haunted deck or black bikes! You do need nerves of steel though, but if you've selected your volunteers correctly and done enough basic groundwork beforehand to instill the belief system in them, that little wine glass *should* start to move!

Good luck with whatever you do - Halloween is a great time to be a magi & let your imagination run riot!

Well paint me purple and call me Susan if it isn't so, but I'm just in from a night of people saying that I can't read them and then doing so despite their best misguided efforts. The mentalistist evening I have ever had. And I've got an invite to perfom on a whole new party circuit.

Job's a good 'un.

Cheers. I still feel drunk, though... I got the new invite by telling a woman exactly the unforced random thought she had decided on. She looked like she'd seen a ghost! 8)

if you want to scare kids (older ones) do the old trick that freddie star did on mohamid ali. In the middle of your routine get everyone around and start telling a spooky story, (It's best if you get a mate to slowly turn down the lighting as you do it) slowly lower your voice so they have to listen very carefully and then scream full bore to make them jump. Works every time as they are expecting a magic trick
You can incorporate this with card on ceiling. You get the kids to look for the card on the walls, behind the sofa, then the floor(this is last as there all looking at the floor) You try to get the kids to look in slow motion, then finally you say 'then they very very veeeeery slowwwwwly loooked up'
And as they do BANG jump back throw your cards up (loose deck so they scatter as if you threw them because you are scared) and there is the gost of the jack of clubs (or whatever) on the ceiling

One of my favourite "patter" tricks is Killer Elite.

I am planning on making a Halloween version of this effect - witches, ghosts, etc... with a spooky patter.

I am sure that anyone who knows this effect should have no problems making a scary version of it.

As I mentioned in the other halloween topic, my fave commercial tricks are Needle Through Arm, Spike Through Tongue, with The Web coming in top.

But nothing has got the reaction of cutting out my own heart and the chosen card is inside.. :D
