I was going into my building tonight, and the man who buzzes the residents in was just sitting there. So before I went in, I asked him if he liked magic, and I did almost 15 tricks for him. I did a whole Raven routine, as well as several card tricks and even wowed him with some basic vanishes and color changes. He told me he had never seen anything like it in his whole life, and it really made me feel great.

I really want to work hard at magic from now on, because that feeling of reaction is the greatest feeling in the world.

Im sure some of you guys have similar stories, and I would love to hear them.

I did my first public performances in the pub a couple of weeks ago and it felt great. Only did a little 5 trick routine, but the reactions were great.

I've since done the same routine in two other pubs with brilliant reactions.

I just landed a very nice corportate booking today for one of the areas major employers in Mid December and they've asked me to find them some other acts too ( a couple of friends may owe me a pint)

I don't really remember my first confidence boost with magic as I have been doing that since I was in middle school. Then I think it was a somewhat slow transition from having 1 or 2 people enthrawlled to having 20 people eating from my palms.

But I remember when I first got into hypnosis. I went to a party, only having done a few drawn out inductions and long sessions. I felt confident with my knowledge as I had read many many books on it by this point. I went there and I decided "XXXX it. I'll just see what I can get away with." I did some pretty balsy things that night and didn't have a single failure. I even hypnotised a guy while some really loud obnoxious punk music was playing in about 60 seconds. Just speaking to him I made the music go away, the murmering of the crowds go away, until he thought it was just him and me with him there at that moment. Standing alone in the kitchen, 6 feet away from the fairly cranked sound system.

It was a good night.

guys you'll know if you realy have the magic bug when you do a show and it bombs, not because of what you did but because the audience just wasn't with it that night.
if you can bounce back from that then your a true wizz.

I've had alot of good reactions and comments from people at various times that always make me smile. It really makes up for any of the times where people are just trying to bust your nutz and heckle you.

The one that really stands out for me, was about 8yrs ago or so, we went up to visit one of my wifes (Gf at the time) girlfriends when she was in town staying with her parents. They live in a smaller town a few hours away in another state. So, we went out bar hopping that sat night and I did magic for about 5 hours at this one pub off and on. The Bar tenders and owner just loved it and wanted to hire me for the bar. Told them I didn't live close enough to do so, but thanks anyways for the offer.

I did all sorts of stuff that night. I think the most popular was Card on the Celing. I even drank all night long for free, as people leaving the bar and going to others started talking about this magician over at the other bar. By the end of the night.. people were coming in to see what was going on from all the stories they were hearing at the other bars.

made me feel pretty good people were coming to see me and what I was doing.

Then, to make things better, a few years later we went up there again as my wifes girlfriend was getting married in her hometown. After the reception - we went bar hopping again, and as we walked in to this pub... the owner/tenders go "HOLY SH!T.. its you.. show us something! show us something!"

Now, they did happen to know the couple being married, so I don't really know if they tipped him off that I was comming.. But boy. What a feeling I got that they remembered me (even though, not by name)

To boot.. my cards from a few years ago were still up on the ceiling. Owner said people asked about them all the time, and he always told the story to them about that night.

It was a sad day a couple years ago when a tornado ripped thru the town and I think tore down that bar or at least ripped the roof off... I was told my cards are gone, and that we should go back to establish the old look. Someday I'll have to get up there again.

The best part, was the second time we went up there... the bride put this quarter between her fingers on the back side her hand. As she held her hands up in front or her..She goes. LOOK- Nothing in my hands (showing the palm side).

then, she turns her hands around exposing the quarter and says it again... NOTHING IN MY Hands, theres nothing to see here.

She was pretty drunk, but she honestly thought she was hidding a quarter from people and to this day... we always joke.."nothing in my hands"... "theres nothing to see here".

The old bar was rebuilt or so I was told. Not sure if it looks the same inside or not, but I'm sure we'll get up there again sooner or later. The gals parents still live up there, so when they come back to the midwest, we ususally will go up to see them.

The first time I did a one-ahead, the effect on the spectator took me completely by surprise. He was deeply shocked and seriously demanding to know how I could have known the name of his best friend at primary school from over 40 years ago. I couldn't stop shaking or grinning. When I finally calmed down, I was on cloud 9 for days.

The biggest buzz I've had from magic (and I've had a many amazing nights) is just recently when I got a straight ouija board to work with 3 specs. It was an amazing sight and experience to see the glass moving around the table, and to know that it had been my priming and preperation that had achieved it. Beats an ambitious card everytime!

Great stories everyone. I guess my best was actually about 2 weeks or so ago, I performed Stigmata to my math teacher and his reaction caught the attention of half the class (he wouldn't stop laughing and gave me 3 tootsie rolls, his biggest "gift" for accomplishing a hard math problem correctly... ). After that, everyone was asking to see it again and said I would perform it later on during the day (I did not want anyone to catch on) and did a small card routine. Then after Social Studies, the whole class was asking to see it (they were asking all day but they really got impatient after Social Studies for whatever reason) and I gave in and did it....I did it to the whole class, including the teacher (27 or so people), completely surrounded, and perfectly, not being caught! Probably the biggest confidence boost I have gotten in a while. Also, I got really good reactions with D'Lites 2 (?) years ago, I was at an ice cream place (extreamly busy) and walked up to a group of three people (keep in mind that I was 11 or so at the time), started performing D'Lite, and in about 2 minutes the group went from 3 people to about 25 and I continued performing for about 5 minutes without any making any nasty comments or trying take advantage of my age and walk up to me and start grabbing at my hands. Honestly though, just getting one smile or laugh throughout the day doing magic is more than enough to keep me going.


I'm getting Art of Astonishment tomorrow hopefully in the mail, so hopefully I'll find some really amazing things in there so I can practice this week and get even greater reactions this weekend.

how long has it been since they rebuilt? If time has not elapsed overly long, you should go back and perform for them as a part of a "Grand Reopening party"

I know the tornado was a yr 1/2 or 2 yrs now. I'd heard they rebuilt, but not sure when/if the have reopened. I would have imagined so by now, but not positive.

I'll have to do some asking around and see.
