HALLO OUT THERE

Postby Pendulum » Nov 5th, '06, 07:15

I would have to say that i am a late EN in the rankings of siege. But otherwise im 16 and i like magic. But i never have to much time up until recently. But ya if anyone wants to give me some tips on some good videos and stuff, that would be great. Also if anyone knows of some good magic stores in the suburban chicago areas, that would help. Thanks

Welcome.

Its good to see that you have read the sticky before posting.

The first few things you might want to buy would be:
Royal Road to Card Magic &
Born To Perform

ya i have heard about those before. But i have also heard about something called card college or something. I heard that was pretty good. But i could be completely wrong. Otherwise ive just kinda been learning the tricks i know so far off hand by watching the magicians a lot. Its going pretty well but its hard. So thanks for helping me find some good sources of information.

Welcome Pendulum. You will find that the majority of the members are not from the US. I googled Chicago Magic Shop and got a number of hits, but as we know, Chicago is a large city so you would be better suited to pick a shop near you. I would suggest that, if they are reluctant to sell books or DVDs and push you towards individual effects (especially if you go in telling them that you are just starting out) you should check out another shop. I would think that if they are truly interested in helping you in your quest to learn magic that you would be directed towards books, or at least DVDs. Also, since you are young, they should realize that you probably do not have lots of money to spend and should (again, if they are trying to help you learn and just get as much money out of you as possible) direct you towards books and DVDs. You may also want top consider joining the local S.A.M. http://www.magicalchicago.com/. Most members will be helpful and you will have the opportunity to be exposed to many types of magic and learn quite a bit without the sales pressure (I was guided towards mentalism and learned contact mind reading from a friend at the S.A.M.).
