James Bond Magic

Postby greedoniz » Nov 6th, '06, 17:25

Hello,

I have been asked by the manager of a bar/club whom I did some magic for the other week to return and do some walkaround for a James Bond evening he is organising for his regulars and other local bar owners. Obviously a good opportunity but the material I mostly do has a more comic approach and I reckon this might not suit the evenings atmosphere.
There will be a casino feel to the function and so I was thinking around the idea of card routines with a gambling edge.

Any ideas from the folks here at talkmagic?

I just hope I dont have to wear a tux...I look terrible in tidy clothes

wear a tux (sorry, had to say it), slick back your hair, talk in a sean connery accent and order a martini.
other than that, yeah, gambling routines, do a few coin effects and just substitute poker chips for coins.
you could try some gun related tricks, have someone pick a card and lose it in the deck, pull out your toy pistol, shoot the deck and have their have a bullet hole in it, I'm sure i've seen this somewhere befor.
also, check out Ammar's Easy to Master Card Miracles for a Card Gun effect that's easy as pi and looks very nice.

Custom R&S decks made to specification - PM me for details

psychic spy routines!

there's that old telegram effect from Annemann you could adapt easily...

what would a psychic spy do?

crack a safe by determining the codes?
plot a route of some kind and be able to predict their every move?
Poker chips (some are steel cored)
deal a perfect poker hand, predict the numbers at roulette

just some ideas...

Haunted Key as a method for picking locks?

PK sharpie for creating diversions by falling off a table and attracting a guard?

Colour changing poker chips - I did a James Bond Casino evening about 18 months ago for someone and this one went down a storm around the roulette wheel.

I think you saw it on the new criss angel series. I could be wrong though.

james bond is a true player, i'd imagine him just making money at his finger tips. how about Fraud buy Daniel Garcia, i think you could get away with international currency, or failing that the good old bill switch is still a slick move.

and how about labbelling your prediction envelopes TOP SECRET FILES, like MI5 knew what card they would pick ect.

Now pay attention 007...

Check out Jiggernaut (reviewed somewhere on TM ages ago) which uses a standard jigger liquor double measure and fake olives to do a version of cups and balls. Jiggers and olives being fundamental in terms of vodka martinis, shaken not stirred.

Well, if you are going to do some gambling, you could always do 3 card monte. There are countless gambling themes you could do though, as mentioned above. Make sure to post and let us know how it went! I'm sure you'll do great.

Someone recently on TM (Moodini?) suggested doing Sankey's Holy Moly with poker chips, which you could drill yourself - I expect that would work very well!

Wow, that would be a great idea. I dont know how many times you would be able to do the trick though, because of the nature of the force used. Still, the effect would be very cool.

Wow what a load of ideas.

I'd better get my blankety blank cheque book and pen out and get searching for these routines you have suggested.

I was thinking the following card routine.

Man From New york - Aces production from complete card magic DVD

Aces then returned into various parts of the deck and then spectator cuts pack into four and aces on top (dont know the name of this)

Aces again returned to various parts of the deck. Spectator chooses four cards in pack, they are also the aces.

Aces put to one side

Card under Box - Derren Browns version from Devils Picture book

The Collector - using aces to find three cards selected at random by three spectators - From Complete card Magic DVD

Spooked - Haunted deck with the three selected cards shooting out of the deck.

As most of the tricks involve ace productions I was going to use a winning at poker patter.

I am going to look at the colour changing poker chips. Sounds perfect
