My first routine

Postby Pendulum » Nov 8th, '06, 03:26

So i am going to do my first routine for some people i know very soon. I have 4-5 tricks already chosen out for a short show, and just was wondering if i could get some advice on this. This is my first actual bigger public show, even if it is just with some people i know.(not all of them very well, but i still konw them). Also if right now you guys have any tricks you really really like, ive been looking for new tricks to work on, and maybe you guys could tell me some and where to buy them. But mainly i want to know about this. So thanks very much. And also, how many tricks should be in a routine, because i have many more that i could pull out. And if you want i could tell you some of the tricks im doing. Just ask. But help would be much appreciated. Thanks very much.

just to clarify yes i have done tricks before in public to people, just not a set routine to people who are going to be staying there and whatnot. And performing more than one trick at a time.

I've only just started going out in public with a routine (been doing it for just over a month now around the pubs). My routine is a 5 trick routine which I think is about right. You leave them still wanting more but have shown them enough to be happy with. My routine takes about 15 minutes with in my (limited) experience is about right, any longer and people start to loose interest.

keep it simple, stick to those 4-5 for a good while, get them down so you can do it all in your sleep (that might quite impressive in itself), dont rush and go crazy buying up all the tricks you can find in one go...though i understand how tempting that is..

only move onto something else once you are completely comfortable with your current routine...

and dont forget alot of pros stick to alot of the same effects over the years, progressing them, becoming masters of them..

thats my two pence worth anyways...

Whether 4-5 tricks is enough depends (of course) on how long you want/need to go on for. Because you haven't said how long, nobody can answer that.

However I do 4/5 in about 20 minutes and I feel that's about right. I think with a bit of variety (not 20 minutes of cards but that's just personal taste) then 20 minutes should be fine.
