one handed shuffle problem

Postby greedoniz » Nov 8th, '06, 14:02

Hello

I have almost got the one handed shuffle down....well actually I did have it down but seem to have lost it again.
The problem arises in the weave when I seem to get a packet of several card in the middle of the weave that simply wont go. If I try more force it they keep bending and end up spring everywhere whilst ruining the card edge.
The top and bottom stacks weave realy easily but the middle just wont go unless my other hand gets involved.

Also sometimes when I do get the weave and then go for the cascade the first 5 or 6 cards drop to the floor.

Any help would be great

Thanks

With the weave, just concentrate on one end and try to get the the first 3 or 4 cards to weave, the rest take care of themselves. If you have problems weaving still, it may be the the packets aren't level at the ends.

After they weave, keep the bend until the very last minute before you remove your first finger. If you release the bend right at the last minute, your hand should be positioned so that they fall flush and not spray everywhere, which is still what happens to me sometimes but I dont put in a lot of practice with this.. for some reason I think it damages the cards.. which it doesn't, Im just being paranoid. I like decks new forever!!

I have been doing this Howard De Courcy flourish for over 40 years. I usually end with the Notis Cascade. I can get the cascade to around a foot or so.

I well remember my early days of practicing. This is what I used to do. I would position the deck with TWO hands rather than one. Once I got the knack of getting it to work perfectly I then advanced on to doing it with one hand.

In the early days I even used to perform it two handed for laymen. I used to say "here is the one hand shuffle with the aid of the other hand!"

Thanks for the tips I will keep practicing til I get it. I yhink it may be that I am trying to weave it all in one go rather than starting at the bottom

Yes, just try and get the first few cards to weave at either top or bottom, it doesnt matter but only concentrate on the first few.. the rest will follow in the flow

Do you have an better time with a smaller, bridge sized deck? That may make the process easier. I have found that when I cant master an effect with my poker cards, I break out my bridge deck, and my little hands have little problem manipulating the smaller cards.

What's a good source for learning flourishes? I've learned a few (one handed fans, one handed cuts) from simple trial and error but I haven't come across a good source yet. Any recommendations?

I got a lot of useful flourishes from "Showoff with Cards" avaliable at Penguin. Once you have that down, "Generation Xtreme" is also good but at a higher level than "Showoff with Cards" so I remcommend that to be a first and "Generation Xtreme" be a second.

Good luck,

The best source for learning "flourishes" is Xtreme Begginerz on superhandz.com
Flourishes is a common word so you can understand, but in these particular DVDs the right name is XCM (sounds heavy?). Well, there is material for everyone (totally beginer or not) so there very simple things and there are hard things, but there is also pro tips (on getting jobs, dressing, dropping cards, routining, etc) you won´t find anywhere else.
Everything is perfectly excecuted and explained with the best angles.
Check out the trailers : )

On the other hand, I really don´t like Brian Tudor videos. His material is very repetitive, two much two handed cuts (as well as Dan & Dave). Also Tudor is not a good teacher at all, so I wouldn´t recomend his videos.
But if you´re interested on sybils and endless similar variations of two hand cuts he might be your solution.

Well I have this problem with the one handed shuffle. When I seperate the cards, the half that stays still always splits into two and the bottom quarter falls down into my palm. Also I can't weave it at all, and if I do, then my deck goes flying everywhere if I try to bridge it (probably because I'm using 100% plastic cards and I can't find my bike decks.)

On XB you can find the one hand shuffle and the two hand faro (the weave) for giant fans on HUGE detail.
Obviously the faro notes are usefull to weave the cards on the one hand shuffle because this is actually a one hand weave or a one hand faro.
