Rubber Cement

Postby timlic » Oct 20th, '06, 14:11

Hiya!

I need some reccommendations for 'rubber cement' in the UK. I'm trying to master a couple of effects, but the type of glue I've been using just doesn't cut the mustard...

Any suggestions on brands/makes please?

Check out any diving or surf shops, they usually do neoprene glue.

one guy imports the proper american 'reber cement' from the USA and sells it on ebay

Its £7.99 for a big bottle of the stuff!!

but for the effect you want to use it for ( for practicality ).. id suggest a small repair kit from halfords as said above..

Another alternative to rubber cement that I use in effects that require it to be put on your skin is liquid latex as I think it is better for the old skin.
http://www.magicbox.uk.com/ sell it, it is only a fiver and it goes a long way.

Halfords, bicycle puncture repair kit

I'd avoid that, I bought it for the rubber cement & it was no good at all. I bought some off ebay instead. Amazingly I went into a model makers shop & they didn't even have any.

I've been using bicycle rubber cement for years, it works a treat!

And it's cheaper!

It IS a slightly different consistency from that which is available elsewhere though, I admit.

i have used the standard bicycle repair kit rubber cement and also the type imported from usa on ebay as mentioned earlier by I.D.

From my experience each rc is as good each other, although your choice of which to use may depend on how your skin reacts to each one on clean up.

I prefer the std bike repair kit rc as its easy to conceal in pocket, rather than trying to conceal the large bottle, having said that im probably just to lazy to transfer it to a smaller bottle of some description.

If 'Cow Gum' is still available that used to be called Rubber Cement. Nothing to do with cows so OK for vegetarians.

Edit 5 mins later! OK, I see it's no longer available (should have checked first!) but see http://www.discountart.co.uk/glue.htm for a suggsted replacement.

I agree with Seige. If you want it for the effect I think you do, then it's fine and dandy. All I'd add is that Halfords is not exactly the cheapest place to buy it - I got two puncture repair kits (which I bought solely for the rubber cement in them, for magic use) for a single quid from the local Pound Shop the other week.
