four card monte - patter/story

Postby Mikey.666 » Nov 23rd, '06, 18:21

hey guys.
i've recently touched up on my 4 card monte, and been performing it to people in school.
there's one thing I'm lacking though. i think it can be a powerful effect, with good patter or some type of story to go along with the routine. at the moment, i have nothing-i'm not getting the wow faces i usually get with my routines.

any ideas on this?? :?

or tips on making up patter and storys for such effects?

Well I think monte routines will probably not get a "wow" reaction unless you present it with a less involving patter. Monte's tend to be seen as a game instead of magic usually (in my opinion.)

I perform colour monte (search for color or colour monte and I'm sure you'll find a demo on penguin or somewhere), and use the patter that I was once 'done over' by a man who wanted to take my money. This way, it stops it being a game for the spectator and it's an interesting anecdote of what happened to me once when I met so-and-so while I was in somewhere-or-other drinking this, eating that, all while something amazing was going on around us.

The only limitation for your patter will then be your imagination.

I think that makes sense...

Color Monte was one of the first tricks I bought (which was one among a $150 batch) and was one of my favorite tricks until I dropped it in a puddle along with the wallet :/.

It doesn't matter if you've dropped it - how about performing it with 'two' jokers and an ace, finishing with the Queen of Hearts?

Works for me.
