WARNING to MySpace Folk

Postby Craig Browning » Nov 25th, '06, 03:20

After several hours now I'm finally seeing the light of day... I got hit by the GOLD CODEC Trojan this morning by checking the profile to a friend's request at MySpace... it's a royal pain and I'm still trying to get my system straightened out...

If this is what I think it is, I was one of the first to get this... Did it ask you to download a CodecS to see the video and then your whole computer got messed up?

Good luck and just run spybot + a good A/V then do a system restore then do another Spybot and an all C:\ drive scan with your A/V and then a specific scan to C:\system volume information.

I'll be posting links that both, describe the Trojan in question as well as what we had to do to clean it out... once I have it completely out of my system. So far I've used SpyBot, Window Washer and a couple of other cleaners as well as a special software that was developed specifically for this particular animal. Though I can finally use my PC and get on line, there are still a couple of minor hanger-oner type symptoms we've not been able to clear.

The trap I got into was that it was an MicroSoft approved Security download. To add to it's disguise is that it has a likeness of Tom from MySpace on the download request page, saying you can't view a particular guest until download this headache.

Have you posted it in the forum on myspace so that others are aware too?

Forgot to mention Windows Washer, I love that program :P. Good luck getting it off of your computer and I am now guessing you have something different then I did.

Try installing Ewido :

http://www.ewido.net/en/ (now called AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5) . you can use the 30day trial. It continues where others stop

If it fails you should do some research. Tha origina; name of the trojan is Zlob (it has many aliases). You could remove it manually but it's a bit dangerous .
Check here :

Good luck
