Very enjoyable to watch, apart from the fact it was a tad bit long. Keep up the good work

Sam :)

You did an admirable job here - but this video is one of many that teaches perhaps the most important lesson we can learn in magic.

Buy the original effect.

It is very obvious that you don't fully understand all of the mechanics and nuances of this effect. Judging by your handling, I'm assuming you learned this from a video of someone else who learned it in the same way. Your handling is often times fidgeting and incredibly suspicious - and as a result the strength of the overall effect is diminished. These hurdles can be overcome by checking out the source material (this effect was created by Darwin Ortiz, in case you're interested).

To make a few comments on your handling:

You show the 2 of hearts on the bottom, then go into a really sketchy "shuffle" sequence that looks incredibly dodgy.

Your handling of d's is a bit rough as well. You aren't being natural about it. You take a while to get ready, and you are almost constantly "squaring" everything up after you display the face up card. Your turnovers suffer from similar problems.

Throughout the routine you improvise moves and reorder the cards in order to continue your progress. Study of the original effect (and even the variations that are all over the place) will open your eyes to the true power of this effect. One of the most beautiful aspects of this effect is how straightforward it can be. There is no need for you to fiddle with the cards like you're doing. This problem comes from learning from a video of a performance, not an instructional video or text.

My advice would be to check out Darwin Ortiz' original handling - which you can find in his book At the Card Table. However, to kill two birds with one stone, I would highly recommend Gregory Wilson's Double Take DVD. Along with teaching multiple variations of DL's (which will help you with this and many other effects), it also teaches Jumping Gemini (a variation - not the original handling) which you may find incredibly useful in perfecting this effect.

As a first submission this shows a great deal of potential. However, I recommend that you study the original material, not internet videos of performances. Your magic will be much stronger as a result.

the effect can be found on a michael ammar dvd easy to learn card miracles but can't think of the volume. i too thought the handling could be so much better. but thats where the magic word practise comes into play. good luck tho its a lovely effect.

I agree with Demitri, first of all learn the original effect, Darwin Ortiz is ok (I like Wilson's handling better, but it may be a bit more advance), I wouldn't recommend Ammar, only then you will be able to understand it's power and logic. This variation isn't really the Jumping Gemmini effect. Don't use the cards you use. Well... just look for the original effect and you'll get what we're saying. As for your handling... don't tilt your hand so much while doing the lifts, don't do so much extra moves and so on.

I don not know this particular effect, but i think that maybe the last part with the Jokers gave it away. I'm not sure, but that could've been without, as i knew at least how the last part was done. Overall, a nice job.

I agree with Demitri. The D/L's you do require alot more practice. They simply don't look natural. I had major troubles with the D/L myself at first, but after practicing alot of different variations I got it down quite good, and that was after about 6 months of practicing. I've got the "Double Take" DVD and really recommend it, it's worth it's price.
You chose a great effect, but a bad source to learn it from...
