"The Clean Vanish"

Postby XTTX » Nov 28th, '06, 22:41

This seems mighty fishy. I saw a video on youtube of a coin vanish that looked amazing. Has anybody seen or bought this effect:
http://magicbox.1hwy.com/
The website URL makes me skeptical of it.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. The jerky movements he makes with his hands make it alot less easy to see if the video recording has been paused, the coin removed, and the video start recording again. As you said the URL looks a bit dodgey too

I agree; the second time I watched the video, I also noticed the three jerks in his arm while making the coin vanish and reappear.

I tried looking at the backgorund and positioning of his chair to see if it had changed after the jerks and there was some little movements, I'd stick with a black widow :D

"If within 30 days you think this magic trick does not meet your expectations and you send us a picture proving that, we will reimburse your purchase price "

What on earth would "and you send us a picture proving that" involve? A photograph of you standing there, looking disappointed?

And this: "I am not going to post here any fake testimonials like you see on other sites. Instead I am inviting you to go to YouTube, where this video was originally uploaded, and see what others have to say about my effect."

Aren't the comments he's pointing us to from people who only watched the video of the effect on YouTube and thought it was good, not from people who have actually bought the cause of the effect?

Sorry if I'm maligning the guy, but the effect looks too good to be true for $34.90, and the site seems a little "weasly" in its wording. Cynical me says it thinks you get a piece of paper with the words "buy a raven" on it

I was watching his pinky finger, on the hand the coin was in. Pay attention to that. It looks like that is what the jerks are for, to cover that up. IF this is a spoiler, then plz delete it, but that is what i noticed.

I can see the odd pinkie movement now that you mention it - however it's only on the reappearance, not the original vanish.

It still looks suspicious to me.... but I can't spot anything that would indicate it's a camera trick for sure.

Though, if there are 35 people that would all actually pay 35 dollars for the real trick - but are suspicious, they could each put in a buck for one person to order it, if it actually delivers what it promises then all would be ethically obligated to buy it. But if not you're only out a buck.

Seems about the only way I can think of to ethically(-ish?) find out if this is true or a scam;)

Bah, even if it is a real coin vanish, it probably has a bad angle and only looks good on camera.

Just go and buy J. Bobo's coin book, or get a Raven. :D
