I'm looking for the next book after RRTCM. Should I become The Expert and the Card Table or develop my Expert Card Technique or even Card Control.

For inspiration, should I consider the Encyclopedia of Card Tricks or Card Manipulations?

I know these all cost about a fiver, but it seems right to get them in the right order.

Maybe a DVD? I like both my Devil's Picture Book and Ninja 1, though the former more than the latter.

I know the answer to both of these is probably "it depends on your style". I find it hard to answer that, given that I'm only a novice. I certainly enjoy impromptu or "get away with"able setup stuff. Not a big fan of props or gimmicks. I like to keep it simple and lyrical. I'm not scrared of the odd ID or Force deck every now and then.

I'm certainly not a fan of things like colour changes, or things which have a "well you did did something sneaky just then and we didn't see it" type thing.

I am, however, a fan of 4 ace routines, "it's under the ashtray" type tricks and Lennart Green's Invisible Deal type thing.

I do all of my tricks in the pub, at the dinner table or on the floor.

Your advice is most appreciated.

I would suggest:

Seventh Heaven by Lewis Jones
and the other Hugard books, plus
Scarne on Card Tricks, and
Annemann's one too...

you're probably looking at 50 quid or so for the lot...

devils picture book truely is a great DVD, lots to learn from that.

You might also consider still fancy a pot of jam by James Brown.
It's has a fair few good effects in there useable as they are, but also some good info on misdirection shown in a "dont worry about it, just get on with it" style.

Aside from that, lots a fun to be had from within the pages of the Art of Astonishment tomes if you haven't already had the pleasure of learning from them. The 3 volume set is a bit pricey, yet very very worth it.

Anything else comes to mind, I'll post it for you.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh
