Serendipity (ring in lighter)

Postby Silkenone » Nov 27th, '06, 23:23

Not Mr Skutt's notebook, but a ring vanish into a Zippo lighter.

Anyone got this? I would love to hear any thoughts.

I have had my eye on this for some time, now. I am probably going to get it this week - so once I play with it for a bit, I'll be sure to post up a review for you.

I've seen this in action and felt a little let down. However, that was due to my own mistaken preconceptions, it's actually a nice little effect.

The thing is, when I read the product description I somehow assumed that the lighter was on the table in full view the whole time. In fact you vanish the coin then reach into your pocket and produce the lighter, which you then open to reveal the coin/ring/whatever.

That put a bit of a sour taste in my mouth but in fact I can see how it would be impressive to a lay person. The working is straightforward enough but you wouldn't want to have too much in your pocket except for the lighter if you want a smooth ride, it went a bit awry when I was shown it for this very reason.

Make sure you post a full review anyway Demitri, this is only my view based on about 5 minutes of observation.

I bought one of these from Collectors Workshop so I’m not sure if they are the same?

I will say the effect is killer on lay people. You will have to be able to palm a ring and you will have to go to the pocket to do the dirty work. You will also learn the fold, a very old way of vanishing a coin from inside a piece of paper.

There’s not a lot to say about this effect as it is simple and straight forward.

The lighter is a Zippo and that’s nice.

This is a good trick but the $50 I paid was excessive to say the least. This version at $25 would be a much better investment considering that a new Zippo could cost you $19 or more.

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much chaps! Think I've got the picture - it should fit in nicely with some of my other stuff.
