The reason I do so many card effects when performing is because so many people have asked me to come back to there table and do a few more card tricks or just as I have been about to leave can you do another card trick and so many spectators have said to me they enjoy card tricks the most in magic so thats really why im so into cards when performing.

An Opener is something quick and flashy trick right to grab there attention , normally my first trick I do at tables is jokers wild or some color change routine kinda thing I do.

Normally for closer I use my own effect 4 of a kind or ACR maybe Paperclipped etc.

But my spectators must be having a good time and be enjoying the magic otherwise they would not book me again for gigs also if my spectators wernt enjoying my magic then I doubt I woud be working in the Restaurant anymore and I no for sure people have been enjoying my magic becasue of all the positive feedback I have been getting from people after the gig

but I understand what you guys are trying to say, but from my experience this hasnt always been the best approach.

Nice effect - shame the lighting and sound weren't great although I got the gist of it.

Is it a known routine (if so where) or is it your own creation?

yeh the video is not great but neva mind it was filmed a night at a party so dats why the sound is bad lol. Its by Sankey/Sanders sessions from there dvds.

could we please have some direct answers , instead of the usual:
charge what you think you are worth
double the price of a main course for 2
etc......
how much in GBP do you charge for resturant work (in the uk)

I doubt you'll get a straight answer, it depends on the venue, the performer's skill and many other variables. Why not try a shot in the dark of the price of 2 main courses and see what the reaction is? The worst than can happen is they say, 'No thanks.

I can't really comment on pricing for magic, as I only do unpaid stuff at the moment. But I used a play fiddle in a folk band and we'd vary our charge depending on the venue. Some places were prepared to pay more than others so we'd charge those places slightly more.

My advice would be to start off with a low charge and gradually increase it as you get better known.

The average price or so I am told if about £150 - £250 an hour unless you can work out some kinda deal with the people running the event. When doing coprate work try to find out how big a budget they got, dont ask directly but fish around then adjust your price acordingly.

No problems. Only thing is if your charinging £150 you turn up looking like your worth £150 an hour if you turn up in jeans and trainers well you probley wont get far.

EDIT : Lady of mystery the low charge idea is a good one but i said that and got told it was a silly idea! glad some else thinks like me.

The idea with starting with a low price is that if you go in too expensive first time you'll just get dismissed. In the future they'll just remember that you're too expensive and wont approach you. Go the other way and offer a low price to start with you're more likely to get the booking. Do the booking and if you're good you can try to haggle a higher price in the future.

I've never suggested that there is a time limit or that one would be found anywhere but your post seemed to assume a current conversation rather than restarting an old one. The time scale could be very relevant as last year's details may not apply this year - inflation etc to be taken into account.

The figures quoted of £150 - £250 an hour surprised me as I'm sure there was a similar thread last year where the rates quoted were half that amount. I guess it would sound better if the price were £150 (or £250) for an hour's show rather than per hour. Whatever the cost, I would have thought that the money would have to be well covered by a noticeable increase in trade otherwise the venue wouldn't feel it worthwhile doing on a regular basis. Just some thoughts.

Lady of mystery i had the same arguemt as you and i basicaly got shot down, the idea was that if you go in low and the word got out you be harming your self.

I don't know how it works with magic but that's how the band used to do it. We were a 4 piece folk band and would charge around £150 for a gig if it was in a pub or area that we weren't known in. Once we were known the price could gradually creep up. It worked very well for us at the time.

I know one of the Dream boys (poor girls chip n dales) And i know they get £150 per show each they charge about £2000 for all of them. So i think round about that is a "magic" number for people wanting entertainers.
