Does anyone here make their own IT?

Postby Bryant » Dec 14th, '06, 06:45

Im pretty sure talking about making your own thread isn't against TOS, but if it is, please delete this post.

Do you use single thread, or a few strings still together? Also, what type of thread do you use?

After I fray the thread, I cant seperate it for c*** (not the best), and its extremely frusterating. I try to pull a few away from the rest, and when I pull it away, it bunches behind my fingers and after a few centimeters of the thinner thread has been pulled from the bunch, it stops and usually snaps. This is also extremly frustrating.

I've tried it with polyester and dental floss. Both have failed horribly on several attempts. I've hear nylon thread is the best, but this is all I have lying around the house and I don't really have a ride to wal-mart to get some.

Does anyone have any tips?

*Edit
I already did search. :) You cannot search for Invi-sible Thread because the forum automatically turns it into 'IT', which can be mistaken for 'it' on the search. Almost every post on here has the word 'it' in it.

We've had quite a few threads (no pun intended!) with advice on this so a bit of Searching should find most of them. Perhaps the most memorable thread was the one which got sidetracked as soon as someone mentioned checking out women's stockings.....

Search for people making their own IT revealed nothing. I didn't find one post about anyone making their own IT.

Tell you what, though, you can get Meccano, Lego and a train set in a 15 denier stocking with room to spare for a tangerine or two.

You can buy 10 feet of unstripped thread here (125 strands!) very cheaply:

Worth buying, that'll last you a lifetime.

I've heard LeClair's DVD is good, and I can vouch for Ammar's DVD Easy to Master Thread Miracles - I wrote a review of it here. It's absolutely brilliant, and he tells you where to source your own IT, EXTREMELY cheaply. It's all covered in section 2 of the DVD.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed, I promise.
