MAC (or Magicians Against Censorship)

Buying new magic stuff can be a risky business. Sometimes that effect that sounds like a stunner is either unpractical to perform or just plain naff.
Which is why reviews on forums like this come in handy. Honest opinions from people that have shelled out hard-earned cash for something rather than a freebie sent to a magazine.
Which is why I often read reviews on dealers sites if I'm unsure of an item. People's honest opinions after paying for something can be worth listening to and have sometimes drawn me to or away from something.

What's got my goat is I posted some reviews of a bundle of items I bought from The Merchant of Magic on their site. The majority of the things I had received I was delighted with but one of them, well, was not as good as it sounded to say the least. This was one of their own brand items which had one glowing review attached to it.
Then some real magic ocurred. The review vanished!
So I added another one, and that vanished too!!!

Now, maybe you think I'm moaning a bit and this should have gone in the moaning thread, but it's rather professional and dishonest of a dealer to delete any negative reviews and only keep the glowing ones. In fact, it's unfair on customers to the site. I had some money to spend and was going to spend it with them anyway and wished I had bought something else rather than the naff trick. I just wonder how many other reviews of this item have been removed?
Other sites I use keep the bad reviews on as well as the good ones which gives me a more balanced opinion to make my purchasing decision on. I'm very wary of buying any of their own brand stuff now.

Thank god the reviews on talkmagic are honest and uncensored!

MoM aren;t the only ones to do this. There are a number of comments on Tm regarding other sites that do the same.

If they don;t want people to post negative comments then they shouldn't offer the ability to post in the first place.

Yes, exactly.

I have to say that, in my opinion, these companies are screwing themselves effectively. If you just don't shop there again and warn others, then they're the one's losing out, and it helps the ones who are honest.

Other sites, like magictricks.co.uk have the negative reviews as well as the positive ones and that includes their own products too which is honest and you can make your own mind up.
It's annoying when you're honest about something so other potential buyers are given another point of view that it's deleted. I would rather have spent the twelve quid on some more packs of bikes. I can at least use those!
Sadly with magic stuff there is no return policy though I believe one sites does if the effect doesn't suit you and I can't remember at the moment who it is!
Shame MoM doesnt' do the same!

Well, Freddie, do us all a favour and post a review here so that, at least, TM readers won't get stung.

I already have!
See my review of Hypnotrick...

See, I thought of you all!

I know there's already a review, but I would like to reiterate previous comments about Alakazam's wonderful B.I.P. book. Usable, workable and great value for money. This is what we want!!! :D
