Simple card trick ( no camera )

Postby Smokeythebear56 » Jan 2nd, '07, 19:02

(this could go in restricted area but this is a trick thats so simple and not really serious enough that i felt it appropriate to be in this section...if theres anything wrong with this post let me know and i will remove it)

This is how to do the trick but i dont have a camera so i'll try and explain it the best i can... if i dont make sense at any part let me know.

1) take a regular deck of cards
2) let the person you are going to trick shuffle the cards so they know that there was no set up before hand
3) do your typical "pick a card...any card" stuff with the cards face down so neither of you can see them
4) let them examine their card and while they are looking at it put the deck behind your back (pay attention to what side is face up and down)
5)take their card and put it behind your back (keeping it face down so you can't see it)
6) place the card on the back of the deck face up (so the deck should have two cards face up on both sides)
7) bring up the deck of cards so that the face up card on the other end is visible to them and ask "is this your card?" and they will be like "uh..no" but their card should be facing you so you know what it is
8) put the deck behind your back again and turn their card over and cut the deck

you can pretty much do anything from there, you have their card in the middle of the deck and you know what it is

Here's what i usually do and this throws people off so much

8) give them the deck back and let them shuffle it again and cut it a couple times
9) set the deck face down on a table
10) one by one turn the cards over in a messy pile next to the remainder of the deck
11) do not stop when you turn over their card, turn over about 5 more (but make sure its a messy pile so all the cards you've turned over are somewhat visible)
12) tell them "the fourth card i will turn over from this point will be your card"
13) flip over three more cards from the deck and then go to the pile and turn their card over

this is really good because they think you've messed up and that you thought their card was going to be the 4th card in the deck but yah... and that should distract them from finding out your real secret which is step numero 6 and 7

any feedback would be appreciated

like i said really easy trick anybody can do, have fun with it

Reversing the bottom card and turning over the pack is a very old idea. Jay Sankey have used this old idea in some serious routines. The way you suggest is slightly different and in fact new to me! The idea is similar to the coloured qube in box that can be found in many magic boxes for kids. From a technical point of view there are better ways to peak a card!!
