I am hoping to join a magic forum, this says I have to show a knowledge of magic to gain access to other parts of the forum, and also to write a review maybe to prove this! I cannot write a review that is going to be convincing to anyone if three hundred have been written before, any of which have been ripped of the previous hundred.

But I suppose here is an invisible routine I use this terminology so some one does not try a google search. I am familiar of the rough smooth senario as jean hugard explains

I have recently learned a few tricks using the Biddle count, the si stebbins set-up and have recently tried an invisible routine. The reaction scared me. I have been using sleight (mainly, but don't yet know who to attribute it to) and mathematical tricks with great effect, I also read the downfalls of using any gimmick (whether coin or card, although i have used mainly coin gimmicks in my coin routines as the dexterity needed is immense and modern small coins are really hard to work with especially when the originators were working with coins larger than our old 50p coins). I'm happy with carrying on my sleights and realise the danger of becoming too reliant on a gimmick deck as the reaction is hard to beat. Definitely an end play. but as a saving grace, or for some reason over the phone (for some reason if someone asks for a card over the phone it is somehow more amazing) the invisible routine is great.

There's nothing wrong really with using the odd gimmick but you're right to learn the basics first. Sounds like you're on the right path, good luck to it all.

Hello and welcome, as the good lady says there is nothing wrong with mixing a few gimmicks into your routine. But probably better as an opener rather than an end play, that way you can end clean.

Curiously, I find that introducing gimmics in later effects is OK. Even for the last killer effect (if you end clean) it OK. I would NEVER begin the first effect using a gimmic!
Just imagine the embarrasment if a spectator catch you with the trousers down. I often end with an effect that involves a gimmic, but only AFTER all probs have been "anchored" in the spectators mind as genuine and they stoped considering "gimmiced props" as a possibility (how tricky....).

Absolutely! Curiously, I am performing an effect that is moderately easy to perform, but where all the work begin AFTER the show finishes!! Basically I have to be prepared for that a spectator wants to "see" an item that is gimmicked but where the "state of the item" depends on a 6 digest number chosen by the spectators. I always hope someone will ask since it just make the effect so much stronger, however for me the most difficult part of the performance is AFTER the show finish and I have to prepare the genuine item while talking and chatting to the spectators after the show!!!
