materialising a pack of cards

Postby ultimatecreate » Jan 7th, '07, 11:37

Id like to materialise a pack of cards after throwing out the whole "invisible pack of cards" patter for either the brainwave or ID. Wondered if anyone had any tips. When wearing a suit, perhaps have a pack concealed up a sleeve while gesturing, and then perhaps once the patter is complete, direct a question for misdirection (im a poet and I didn't know it) such as "Ever seen a magician materialise a pack of cards" while bringing the pack up.

Ive no experience with sleeving, and vanishing/materialising packs so any assistance would be very welcome.

Thanks a lot,

Alex

Allow the great Markdini to give you a couple of ideas. Theres a nice flash paper production of cards all so Dave forrest on the Trickery shows a methood for pulling a deck out of an empty wallet. The flash production can be found on the David Stone DvD.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Here's an easy and old method of sleeving, which will work just fine, and serves many magicians...

Have the deck which is to appear inside your jacket's inside pocket.

Start your performance by 'taking' the ID out, ie, the one which is REALLY invisible, from your inside pocket where the REAL deck is.

When you go in there, take the REAL deck from the pocket, and push it up under your armpit, so it's nearly about to fall down your sleeve and clamp it there.

Bring your hand out, and proclaim you're holding an ID of cards.

At this point, you can truly show both hands empty.

With a little practise, at the right moment with your hands at your sides in plain view, you'll be able to release the deck so it slides down your sleeve.

I've tended to 'catch' the deck at the elbow by bringing my hands to chest level to again show they are empty (subtly, not 'look, I have empty hands') and then by straightening the arm again, you release the deck from the sleeve, catch it in the hand, and immediately bring it in to view.

A quick, easy, and gimmickless method.

Is this volume 1? I did a search and could only find volume 1 stocked by most stockists.

Regarding your above question; yes, it is the beginning of the first effect shown on volume one.

You can also use a large silk......have the deck in your chest pocket....when holding the large silk at the two top corners, you show both sides....when showing the second side, your arms will cross and your right hand will end up directly infront of your pocket, concealed by the silk....steal and you are away to the races!

Both volumes are available from various shops, online and concrete. MagicTricks.co.uk and Alakazam.co.uk have the double DVDs in stock at £24.99, and I've not searched other shops, although I'm sure many more will also have both in stock.

Ah, I'm sorry. I presumed he was referring to David Forrest's Trickery DVD set

If you wanted to make a big deal of the appearing deck, there's always Sudden Deck II. I bought it and like it (although I'm not entirely sure I have a use for it!)

It might be nice to start with a visible deck, vanish it to make it invisible for the i deck patter, then make it visible again at the end.

Be careful, however, because you might eclipse your inivisible deck routine with the deck production. I've been performing the Laughing Queens trick by Peter Duffie, and then using the four queens for a red-black card transposition (c/o a glide and a DL) but because it wasn't as impressive as the appearance of the queens in the first place, it became something of an anticlimax.
