David Blaine on Breakfast TV

Postby lozey » Dec 26th, '06, 02:25

There was a programme on tonight that was about the most embarressing moments of TV. Number 13 was David Blain going on a breakfast TV show (i think it was 'this morning'). Having gone for an interview he then refused to say anything at all except that an eye hed drawn on his hand was protecting him from death

I saw that. Had the interviewer owned. He'd done no research as to who he was - hadnt even heard of David Blaine. Must have been so patronising - "...so i hear you do card tricks...?"

Good stuff

Yes that was his interview on GMTV with Eamonn Holmes.
I thought it made Blaine look like a right tit, to be honest.

For those who haven't seen it, here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h28DFZwh0DQ

When we chatted about this last year someone posted that David Blaine looked and acted like someone whose 'brain had just fallen out'. I thought it a rather accurate description :D !

that was truly SOO embarassing i bet hundreds of trainee magicians who had seen his street magic series instantly through their decks in the bin and said "i don't want to be hated!"

Are u sure Tommo? The way he was posing his questions "So I hear you do card tricks?" didnt seem to really know what he was on about. He also admitted it in the interview that hed done little research. Didnt really strike me as sarcastic, but i guess his questioning technique could have been down to the very limited response he got from David.

Oh yes, quite sure. On GMTV, people come on to plug their new project. What's to research? Just wheel them on and ask them about it. "Magician David Blaine" should be an easy ten minutes first thing in the morning. The guy basically sowed the seeds of his own destruction by acting like a shy 3 year old, and the glass box thing finished him off over here.

Why do you think that whole glass box was so bad? I agree weve hardly heard from him since, but I dont quite get what was so bad about the whole act and why we no longer hear from him.

The glass box didnt do anything for me - but thought the world of his close up acts. A

he is no longer an entertainer, he has tried to become a modern day Houdini with feats of physical brilliance (which undoubtedly they are), however, people look at him and for the life of them cannot see the entertainment value. I always get a sense of...err well done but...why??
His ambitous card routine is more exciting than the whole box thing.

I get the feeling he wanted to become a big stage magician but lacked the skill as a showman. On the other hand he couldn't really have continued with his street magic due to his fame.

PS. Eamon Holmes defintely knew who David Blaine was and what he does, it was just the start of the interview, standard practice. Like asking an actor, "so you have a new film out?" or a singer, "tell us about your new single"

When he was in the glass box, Eamonn Holmes turned up with an eye draw on his palm and waved it at him! :D
I love his street magic but I thnk he's made a fool of himself since. These stunts aren't really that impressive or entertaining.
