GUT BUSTER by ANDREW MAYNE

Postby comfortablynumb » Jan 3rd, '07, 20:24

hi all! im new to this forum. I have been pondering on the thought of buying GT BUSTER but I cant really make up my mind!!! the illusion looks great! however i dont want to buy it if it takes ages to set up, is angle sensative and the gimmick is uncomfortable. I am guessing that the gimmick is some kind of putty? (not sure im allowed to say that...i may be wrong anyway!)
I am hoping to perform this on stage so it need to be angle proof!

I dont wanna waste my money, so i was hoping you guys could give me some reviews on this trick. You can private message me if you dont wanna reveal too much to others.

Kind regards

Steve

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

After a few days contemplating on whether to buy this, I finally decided to get it. It cost £59.99 (that really hurt!!!) Received Gut Buster this morning.
hmmmmmmm.....Yes.. its a good effect and Andrew Mayne has come up with a good gimmick. But I feel that many people may find this product a bit too much of a hassle to set up and reset. The DVD is approx 35 min with a full explanation and all aspects are covered really well.
I think it will be perfect for me as I plan to use this effect on stage.

I would give this effect a 8/10.

Without giving anything away, any idea of how much the gimmick would cost to make?

If you get the material (one of which looks like it would be particularly tricky to find, but I guess in a big craft shop you would find it or something like it), about 5$-10$ (can be more I don't know how much the particular thing I'm talking about might cost, but it can't be more then 5$-8$)

About the effect itself: I don't own it but I do know how it's done from a friend who owns it.

It's a very nice effect that can be turned into a great bizarre/comedy effect, BUT, there is one obvious problem with it, and it is the fact that you need a stooge (to put your hand through). you are taught an impromptu version, that can be done with a spectator, but you will rarely find a spectator that fits the bill (in terms of clothing), and even when you do you wont be that keen to perform it, because it's not a very nice thing to do to a spectator, and it doesn't look nearly as good as the effect with the gimmick (that you need a stooge for).

So what IS it good for?
*TV
*If you already perform with another person or an assistant, you can perform it on them.
*If you plant a stooge in the audience.
*If you do a corporate show and can get the man (or women) who hired you to take part in the effect (the person who wears the gimmick doesn't have to do a lot, mostly just wear the right thing and get into position, so it's really easy to teach someone what he needs to do to make the effect work).

Andrews shows a version of one of his proto types. that is made of cardboard. This is knowhere near as good as the gimmick you get with gut buster but it looks pretty good.
To make a copy of the gimmick you get with gut buster I would say it would cost you around £7-10. (its hard to help you without giving too much away!)
You would also need some silly putty.

So about a tenner Sterling which is not bad for a very visual effect and certainly within a performer's budget - thanks!

I have pondered over this for a while.
The video is certainly impressive and I have been very tempted.
Is the gimmick well made>
Is it angle-proof?
How good does it look in real life?

The Gimmick is VERY well made! It should last a long time. the gimmick has been designed so the effect is angle proof.
In real life it looks amazing. It really does has a shock visual to it.
I would say BUY IT! :D

The gimmick would not be too tricky to find. A little fiddly to set up though.. and I dont really see how you could use this wiuthout stooges.

Well.. you could but it wouldnt take them long to figure this out
