Kyle:
After the fan you are left with the cards in your left hand, with the left thumb on the back of the cards and your left fingers, fully extended and together, across the face.
Your left middle finger should be along what would be the bottom short end of the bottom card of the deck.
Take your left index finger, lift it from the deck and curl it down so it is closer to your palm. If the bottom card is a ten the tip of your left finger should rest approximately between the two pips along the long edge closest to your palm and the corner pip. It will probably be a little more towards the pip in the center of that group of five. (the left index finger should now be touching the card)
While slowly straightening your left index finger, curl your other fingers. The deck will pivot at about the point where the left index finger is holding the cards.
You will find that you will need to remove your left fingers from the deck (starting with the little finger) as you close the deck because they will not be able to move further and if they maintain contact the deck will not close any further.
When you are done closing the deck you will be holding it between the left index finger and the left thumb, with your other left-hand fingers in a good position to be straightened and brought over the top edge to square the cards up a bit.
Like most flourishes, start out slow, with practice you will be able to close the deck very quickly (less than one second).
I hope this helps.
