I am looking for the help fo a database expert, either Access or Base.

Would prefer open office base though.

I want an database to be able to place orders fot materials with companies.

i need a tables for suppliers, delivery address, materials ordered. tha will update when the order is placed

This is just a brief outline of what i would like.

I f any one can help they will be much appreciated and i will either pay for the service or i also have the black widow as a trade.

Are there no proprietary shareware or freeware packages that take your fancy?

Take a search on Versiontracker.com

It's sometimes better to go with a ready made package than a bespoke one, especially if your requirements aren't complex.

ditto, i.e. I do a lot of this day in day out...I can help you out too if needs be, but looks like you've got it all covered. Feel free to PM me if you need any advice etc.

However my view is that as Seige has said, it's much better if you've not got any "out of the ordinary" requirements to go the off the shelf/pre-written route, a caveat to this is to ensure the package will either allow you to grow, or will continue to grow.

It's true... I develop databases week in/week out too. But sometimes, it's far easier and more efficient to just buy a ready made solution, which has already been tested and honed with all the stuff you need—and even features you didn't THINK you'd need but will.

The other good reason is you get a manual, helpline and much more with an off the shelf solution—and usually a forum of current users who can answer your problems or requests.

Unfortunately, if you have a bespoke system, the only helpline is your programmer.

I too develop data solutions all day every day (TM not withstanding) and only because some box solutions are horrible to customise.

thanks for all the advice about the order database i managed to put something together using seige recommendation.

However i have bit more ambitious project now that involves orders and processing payments in the construction industry.

i know what i want it to do and what reports i require.
