I've got it, its a good book, and a very good price.

I used the backslip force to fool my mum today and made it look like I read her mind, she had no idea how I did it. The Backslip Force is in this book.

And the Black Tiger Deck is basicaly just a expensive deck (high quality but still too expensive, in future if you still want to buy them I know they have good prices at http://www.magicbox.uk.com on some decks).

Stick with Tally-Ho's or Bicycles, thats what most magicians use, because they're cheap and long lasting (Tally-Ho's are very long lasting IMO).

Make sure you practice everything in the book - its all good, it may not seem like everything is important at first, but the majority of the books content is very useful.

The main US site for Black Tigers is www.ellusionist.com , but they are expensive though.

I would definitely just get normal decks (Bicycles or Tally-Ho's), but it's your choice. Maybe save the Black Tigers for performances, and use normal decks for practice?

its a must !!!! I was loaned this book back in 1989 when I started my journey into magic.

I still have the book and recently bought the DVD version (4) - and find this extremely useful. More so than the book in fact as it explains everything and you are not left wondering whether you understood it or not as it is there in front of you to pause/rewind etc.

I do very much agree!
Before I got the Royal Road, I had knowledge of some sleights and some tricks, but the book just starts from the very basics like shuffling and tells you how to do it properly no matter how trivial you may think it is. And it contains a lot of tricks as well, although admittedly some of them are not as good as others. Saying that, there is however still an enormous number of very decent tricks in there. The only criticism I would make that it is not always easy to follow and a few more pictures would have been helpful. On the other hand it means that you won't be confined to a certain style to much since you're not trying to do it exactly like in some picture.
The best thing about it I'd say is its structure, i.e. that it starts with some very basic sleights and tricks you can do with them and then in the following chapters builds on those further. As pretty much everyone round here, I passionately recommend it.

Buy it!! It's brilliant.

The Royal Road to Card Magic is my bible. I would say that 50% of my card trick repertoire comes from there. In my opinion it is the best book on card magic ever written for the beginner in card magic who wants to learn the fundamentals.

If it is studied systematically and thoroughly the student will end up as good a card magician as anybody out there providing he has the showmanship to go with it.

It's not the brand/name of card that matters, its either ''Bridge'' or ''Poker''.
There are other sizes but 90% of the time it's one of these.

Bridge size = 2.25 inches across
Poker size = 2.5inches across.
Both are about 3.5 inches long.

Might not sound much difference but it does make a big difference with handling.
