Postby jagsmagic » Jan 16th, '07, 14:57

Hi all

After a very eventful 2006 year I am coming back into performing Magic again, I have had a baby girl a few weeks ago and moved house

Just wanted to know how you guys get around practicing with a lot of commitments

Tips and ideas will be great on this as i need that stepping point again

A big congratulations and welcome back

As far as getting practice in I tend to practice on the journey to and from work (Dont worry I'm not driving) as well as in front of the tv and whilst wandering around in my day job.
As far as learning new material goes I tend to sit down in a quiet moment and go through the steps til I know what needs to happen and then it is back to the practice.
In other words whenever I can fit it in (I've even ben known to take a pack of cards to the supermarket)

afternoon!

well, personally, i always build in some me time, no matter how busy things get either personally or business-wise...

its very hard, but i think generally its very important to do so - just to clear your mind and let the body relax for a whle (in fact, there's some nice exercises in Secrets of the Amazing Kreskin that do help)...

usually, even when things are very hectic, i just have a quick half hour just laying down, good music on, and a magic book in hand...completely losing track of the "real" world...

maybe you and your missus could have a little time-out evening, where one is on daughter duties for an hour one night, then swop? you could sneak in a nice bath, glass of wine or whatever and then have good read of a magic book?

or alternatively, you could slip a magic book inside a "baby book" instead?

congratulations by the way... :)

Hi,

First up congratulations.

The key to this is as discussed, you must make time. It's very hard with having just had our second I'm remembering just how hard it can be

Find something that works for you both (you and your partner/wife/SO etc. etc.) i.e. I know a couple who take alternate weekends to have a saturday lie-in, personally speaking I have managed to come to the agreement that I deal with my daughter and after she's in bed (she's two now) I get an hour or two whilst my wife feeds our son (something I cannot do under the current setup) he's 3months old. After she's finished feeding I take over on winding duty and my wife get's her hour/two to watch the soaps or something I'm really not too interested in Celebrity Love Handles or whatever's on at the time!!!!

The key is definitely finding time, it will get easier with a newborn/relatively newborn it seems like all you have time to do is look after them, but after about 24months you get out of all that and into the wonderful world of TT (Terrible Twos not the normal TT)

Cheers, and congrats again!
