Seasonal Magic

Postby Mandrake » Jan 19th, '07, 15:33

So, since Halloweeen and Christmas are still a few months away, is anybody doing any specifically themed magic for Burns Night or perhaps Valentines Day? If so, what sort of things are you planning on doing?

I've got a few things planned for Valentine's Day, the lovey dovey card trick I came up with for the wedding will be in there somewhere. And some things with heart shaped sponges.

Also racking my brains for a use for those heart shaped hole punches they've got on cards 4 magic

OK folks, thinking caps on to dream up a good magical use for either the heart shape produced by those punches or the card with the heart shaped hole.

ah! actually mr. mandrake, i've just started to plan a halloween victorian styled parlour show...nothing concrete yet, but that's the theme...

i'll be linking together with little chats and then demonstrations of:
psychic abilities and heightened intuition
tarot work
pendulum work
spirit slates
billet work
mesmerism
seance!

but i might well tie in a couple of items from BlackHart too, and maybe utilise some Little Smoke, Fuse and Ghost Glass...

my initial plan only though, im sure that some will get dropped, or shortened down...I'm planning on building up slowly...

im not a fan of valentines day - think it's a horrible concept of being told "when" to be romantic...

I'll post up my 'Aphrodite's Girdle' effect in the MO area later... written especially for a love story, and uses heart-shaped holes.

I was thinking of doing a david blaine and pulling my heart out in a restaurant and giving it to the lucky couple er actually im not sure that would be a good idea i think they might want there dinner cooked not raw (cheesy i know). No i quite like the idea of setting up a valentines routine actually maybe with heart shaped ballons and performing the card trick kiss i think thats what its called, also david stones flash rose would be quite nice and i was thinking about drawing 2 stick man and woman on a card making up some lovey dovey story of how they fall in love etc etc then performing an erdanase and suddenly a heart appears in between the stick man and woman. Well Mandrake now you got me thinking what else i can pluck up. Oh also maybe as a closer get them to pick a card and sign it with a heart then appear a champagne bottle from nowhere and its got there signed card inside now that would be great wouldnt it. Well i cant think of anymore ideas now.

What about for those heart shaped cards get them to sign both there names on the card and for the end result the heart shape ends up inbetween there signatures. Obviously they have got to be a couple but that shouldnt be to hard the only problem is how to achieve it. If im right in thinking what you said its normal playing cards with a little heart shaped hole in it if its not ignore everything ive said. Like i said thoe i cant think of a way of achieving it at the moment but im sure it could be done with a little imagination.

some ideas for the ugh valentines thing:

 you could adapt stigmata easily to a heart shape appearing
 substitute transfer a set of lexicon cards to spell the word LOVE (a la lottery - boris pocus)
 gimmicked envelopes, done as love letters - pick anyone of 'em, put it to one side, open the others and they are all letters of hearbreak/turmoil...the one picked is the a proposal of marriage etc...

im resisting mentioning a ball and chain around foot effect...

now the love letters could be an idea. If I could get a group of couples together, I could get the guys to write a nice letter to their girlfriends (as this doesn't happen often enough, in my experience :D ) and seal in an envelope. Mix the envelopes up and take them one at a time to the girls. Stating that I got a strange feeling of love when near the intended recipicent. They all get handed out to the correct partners. Hmmm that could work

It does happen... mainly in Hollywood and the likes ;)

You're feeling unloved? We'll all send you a Valentine's greeting, I'm sure.

..that's why i despise valentines day...the reality of it is, is that a woman could turn up empty handed and it'll be fine...a man does it, you wake up in a shed, with your girlfriend standing over you with a pair of scissors and some tweezers...

once bittten and all that....

nah, dont go in for it, i make the effort (and yes, the occasional love-letter)...so the trade off would be, yes you can have a card with a teddy on it and a balloon - if i spend less time and effort for the rest of year when i feel like expressing myself...

plus if you've ever read the alledged history of valentines day, it's rather gory....

guillotines, randy monks and a bloodied love letter.... ok, rant over with...

It doesn't have to be much, just a nice meal out, some jewellery, chocolates, flowers oh and a teddy bear works well too. Get all those things and you'll be fine. :D

Wow abraxus that sounds like a horror film what you just write. What i would do if i forgot is just go up the loft and get one of many teddys that are up there, honestly theyll never know the difference because they aint seen them in years and for the card just draw one and say i thought it was more romantic than buying one. That is my way out if i forget anyway because i dont like not having any dinner cooked or getting thrown outside.
