right!!! i've seen this on tv so many times where a magician would ask someone to think of a word or name and tell them what they are thinking of. nothing written down. where the hell can you learn this.

Simple versions in them but expand on the technique

For completely untouched, impromptu thought reading like that, in all seriousness, it depends on the word and the situation.

In many situations, you'll find all is not what it seems, and the word has either been divined through writing it down and you not seeing this part of the effect, or quite simply there has been pre-show work carried out.

However, there are many legitimate ways to do this, but free-will doesn't often enter the equation.
