Companion to Absolute Magic?

Postby Marvell » Jan 21st, '07, 19:35

Having recently received my copy of Absolute Magic, I have got about a third of the way through. I am pleased to say that I am not planning on conforming to his model in its entirety, and as he suggests, this is because I've started to form my own image of what magic should be and how to make it happen. I'm very proud of myself.

Is Strong Magic a good comapnion read to this or some other?

EDIT: This is in the context of a non-children and non-"variety act" performer

It is, but their are others that you may find interesting depending of the type of magic you are interested in.

I'm not sure how to describe the magic I'm into, though I'd love to know about the other books.

Brown is into mentalism, so if you like that try looking at,

13 steps to mentalism, Corinda.
Banacheck's Psychological subtleties.
Derren Browns, pure effect
Some of the dvd's by Osterlind are good though a little laboured in presentation.
Any of Annemanns stuff is worth a look.
Phil Goldstien. The blue green and red book of mentalism.

That should give you a good range of opinions, approaches and effects.

You can see that I like my mentalism etc :)

Thanks for the tip on technique books, but what I'm after are books about magic. I'm sure these splendid tomes contain presentation information, but what I have read in Absolute Magic, and what I understand from the description of Strong Magic, is that they are about magic, not showmapship or technique, if you see what I mean.
