is it true about job interviews?

Postby Beardy » Jan 21st, '07, 21:32

Well, I was talking to my girlfriend about having the 4 suits of cards tattooed along my forearm. She stated that it is harder to get a job if you have a tattoo on your forearm. Is this correct do you guys know?

cheers!

Love

depends on your job but prejudism still exists theres also a bit of hollywood effect comeing in here as some prisoners that have love and hate tatoed on there fingers often have them coverd up by card symbols.

imagine listning to tony blair talking about the justification for the war, sleaves rolled back coloar unbuttoned siting casualy on his desk.
if he has card symboles tatooed on his arm are you more or less likly to belive him..... just think about it for a moment and your realise hollywood has done a number on your brain too.

It can make it harder, people make judgments on stuff like that. Its not right that they do so, but they are human and will make judgments on stuff like that. I have heard the same thing. Wear a long sleeve shirt to cover it. Or if they ask, explain what it is.

It mainly depends on the person interviewing you.

These days in the UK tatts have become very popular and are more accepted than they were. But my advice would be to get them done where they can be kept covered if needed

I can tell you that a lot of major organisations, who are usually the better employers will frown upon tatoos on forearms or elsewhere if they can be seen.

they are not as accepted as you may believe and career wise they could have an impact.

You don;t want to be stood up in front of some clients giving a sales speech or other type of presentation with an arm full of tatoos!

When I interiew prospective employees it's something that I'm conscious of!

I recommend against it

Oh yeah the police dont like you having them if you want to join, I dont mind them persay what people want to do is up to them. But some firms will frown if you dont tow the line with the corprate image.

Don't do it. It reduces your IQ in people's estimation by huge amounts, as does wearing a baseball cap (well, duh), chewing gum and having your ear pierced if you're a guy.

I have quite a few friends with tattoos, and the number 1 fallacy when considering them is that "I could get mine to look tasteful". No. Tattoos are brash, end of story, and if you want a job as anything but a motorbike mechanic or a tattooist, don't get one where people can see it.

I quite fancy a tattoo actually, but there's no point in going half measures... I'd get the skull logo from "The Punisher" in solid black a foot high across my back

Where i work, its a strict no-tattoos policy and the uniform is short sleeved shirts only, no long sleeves of sweatshirts (even in winter). You can be sacked if you get one one done, since its in the employee handbook

There is still alot of prejudism. I would not feel confortable if I discover that the surgeon is decorated by tatoo's just before I am rolled into the operating theatre.

Most people in prisons have tatoos, while I am not aware of any nobel price winners with tatoos. Well, attitudes might of course change and who knows maybe one day the best medical doctors as well as the royals have tatoos and ring in their noses?

Magic is slight of mind!

It depends on the job you're going for, it can look very unprofessional if you have one done where people/clients can see it. Although a company trying to sack you for a tattoo could get in very difficult waters when it come to human rights.

I don't think there's anything wrong with tattoos, I've got a string of hearts around my ankle which I really like. Just keep them descrete if you're looking to go into a professional job.

I am a web developer, and I have quite a few tattoos, including both forearms. I have never found that they impede my ability to get a job or land a contract (I am often involved in discussions with potential clients).

Here is the secret for you,
Wear a shirt.
