QUICK Coin Biting Question.....Need Info

Postby LazyKat420 » Jan 22nd, '07, 22:11

Hello!

Forgive me if this has already been discussed or answered... I DID search a couple different phrases but came up with nada~
Anyhow-
I just ordered a quarter for the coin biting routine...
This is my only chance for a while to order magic accessories without having to pay a lot for shipping because it's combined shipping...
So while I'm at it, I want to buy the replacement RBs to go with it, however they come in either 12 or 50 or 100 packs. I honestly have NO idea how long they last or how often I will be replacing. So would some one kindly give me an idea while I still have the chance to combine shipping?

Like, I guess telling me approximately how many times they perform the trick using the same one before replacing would help me LOTS...

Thanks in advance, =)
Rachel

However many you buy they will all start to perish in roughly the same amount of time, I got some with mine and when the one went so the spare two in the packet were also consdierably weakened.

However I have since learned that if you keep them in a cool dry dark place they will not perish so easily.

Jordan C - I think you may be referring to how long they last in general... corrent? but thanks though, because i didnt know that cool&dry would actually preserve their lifespan~

For my original question, I was talking more along the lines of...
How many times can i do the trick using one, until it's too worn out and needs to be replaced? Because I just ordered it, i dont know if after two times it will be worn, or if it will last 100 tricks.
Knowing will help me to know if i should order something like the 12 pack or get more like a 100 pack.
Anyone do this trick that can help me out?

Thanks!

From experience, I used to change the bands before each performance.

The way the coin is constructed, there's sometimes a chance that the bands get damaged during use, and if they snap whilst you're performing, you may end up a little embarrased.

I tend to find that 2 bands on the coin also helped considerably.

I know this sounds OCD, but it's very important to always make sure you're set to perform. Changing the bands before each 'gig' will ensure you won't get caught out!

A bit like taking a 500 mile car journey—you'd check your oil and stuff just in case before setting off.

Solid point.....I learned the hard way at early performances, now I don't leave anything to chance....much like a pilot checks all gauges, fluids, etc, prior to any flight, regardless of how mundane this may seem at times. I check my decks for order, etc......props for elastics, sticky tape, etc...just to ensure that I can comfortably perform without fear of prop failure, etc....

Need the bands. you should be able to get a small quantity from a dentist (they are the ones used for holding braces) Possibly try a pharmacy.

okay that also helped a lot... i just changed my mind, (again lol)
Im short on money but because they are so cheap, i think its worth it to just get the largest quantity available. I was afraid id end up with a billion extras sitting in my box for years, not knowing what to do withem.

So i guess i do have one more curiousity that I'm left with.....
Does anyone know if the dentist ones are all the same? Thought maybe there could be like, different numbers of thicknesses or diameters to choose from? And if so, know which I should get or if it matters??

Hmmmm-Ive also seen them for hair (tiny ones for the ends when girls get a bunch of little braids...) I wonder if thosell work...
Geesh~ never thought i'd be sitting here, analyzing something to silly and small this much!

Thanks again guys

I dont think its necessary to replace them all the time.. I bought my coin in April 2006 with 3 extra bands.. I still have two extra bands left and the reason I changed it was only because I started to see green mouly stuff around the band where I kept it in my boxers shorts..

I bought another coin just over a month ago just so I could show the piece in my mouth before I spat it back on... that works well!! and so I now have 5 extra bands

I found that the rubberbands used for the folding coin are roughly the same as orthodontics rubberbands. As long as you know someone who has braces, I believe you can get them for free. Just make sure to get the smallest size. The others are too big for the quarter.
