Hello

Postby AcrylicAce » Jan 31st, '07, 07:44

I am very fascinated. I have been reading this forum for the past hour now... my eyes are killing me.

I used to be very interested in magic when I was younger but I never really got into it that much because I didn't know where to go to learn more. This site is wonderful in that it gives direction for those that want to learn.

I am 21 years old and live in Montana in the U.S. I will be graduating with a degree in psychology this spring (yay).

The magic that interests me the most is impromtu close up illusion (please point me to any videos or info where i can learn).

Just wanted to say hello and let everyone know I plan to work hard!

Welcome to TM, hope you find it useful.

If you're interested in learning, Mark Wilson's Complete Course is just about one of the best books for giving a good overview of all areas of magic from self working card tricks to big stage illusions.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Nope :D Each one is hand made. I just thought of putting this, as he didn't say: Hi my name is Tom... or Dick... or Harry...
I'm glad somebody noticed that I did something new :)

By the way... Three times what is your age, stepSeven?

I couldn't figure out where to post this so i figured I would just post in my intro post.

Is there a place to ask about where to find a trick if you do not know the name of it? I have seen some tricks that I find really fascinating that I would like to try and learn but i don't know where to look (I have been browsing for awhile now). Even if it is a just a sleight of hand technique... i would like to know what books to look at.

One trick that I have wanted to learn is where the magician passes their hand slowly over a card (say the ace of hearts) and it appears to change into a different card (the ace of spades).

I like the tricks that appear to be very simple (not lots of shuffling or quick moves) but that seem impossible.

Could someone point me in the right direction??

Thanks! BTW, my name is Kadin (pronounced kay-den)

Best place to ask these things would be in Support and Tips - I'm no card expert by any means but what you describe sounds like a simple sleight change - stand by for all the far more informative replies from our card experts :D !

Hey, welcome to TM,

I'm still learning Im finding TM is a great place to get info and recommendations and support...the whole package

So far the guys + girls have pointed me in the direction of 3 good books, and I suppose a fourth by use of the search facility on the performance aspect of magic by Hening Nelms. However the 3 are The Mark Wilson one, JB Bobo's Modern Coin magic (I've recently picked this up for £2.78, bargain!)

And this brings me onto your card question and the third book...re the change there are methods, look at getting The Royal Road to Card Magic, which a fair few people other than me on here will probably recommend, you can get this in either book or DVD form. I can't remember off hand if the Erdnase change is covered in the book, I'll have to check when I got home, but I'd be surprised if some changes weren't covered if not that particular one.

Cheers.
