As I'm sure you're beginning to realise, the Gilbreath Principle is more than a simple effect. Here's a book with a helluva lot of material on it: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic7786.p ... d+concepts

It covers the original principle, Gilbreath's Second Principle and even the Quasi-Gilbreath Principle.

Card Concepts

Postby DrTodd » Jan 25th, '07, 08:59

This is a great book! It is chocked full of really cool stuff, especially for developing your own effects. Alongside this, download Stackview and see what happens to your stacks when you shuffle!

Maven has some brilliant material with the Gilbreath Principle out there :D. I think he's supposed to be writing a book on it, although I could be mistaken on that one.

Stackview is a computer program which can show decks of cards in various stack arrangements - it's a free download and you can check it out at http://www.stackview.com/

Card Concepts sounds fantastic - I can see it'll be of no interest to many but it'll right up my street!

Ordered it from Davenports last night, it's still £16. (£6.50 UK delivery :( ) - can't wait to get it.

I've been giving the G-Principle a lot of study since Xmas, trying to get to really know it so I can develop effects using it - I'm sure I haven't understood all its applications yet but already I can see how powerful this thing is - too good to be discussed on a open forum really!

One aspect I'm struggling with is "justifying" the reversal required before the riffle, so any pointers on this front would be appreciated.

The reversal methods I'm aware of so far are:
Count a packet to the table one card at a time (this is the one that needs justifying patter);
Cut roughly half the pack face up before going into any kind of messy interleaving shuffle (ala Lennart) - love this, it all looks just so damn disorderly;
Have the deck stacked with upper half reversed, cut to the reversal. I can only do this with a gimmicked deck. (Is it possible ungimmicked with the right 'skills'?)

Am I missing some?

:idea: One idea for patter/effect:

Tell your specs you're going to deal them a few poker hands. Each hand of five cards will have exactly one card of each suit!

They'll look gone out - but you'll deliver thanks to Gilbreath and one of these..

I'm sure you could up with similar effects for a deck like this one too..
