Need suggestion for classic pass

Postby fedry » Feb 2nd, '07, 19:58

Juz bought a web cam today. I got suggestion from Marvell to practice in front of video. So, this is the first video of my classic pass. Some of the passes are so obvious. Please give me some advices to improve my pass. Thanks....

Not bad, with alot of misdirection it might go unnoticed.

But, try to jerk your hands less when you execute the pass, and relax your hands a bit more. Also experiment with angling the deck down, and experiment with different covers.

The ''rock'' is a good cover when doing a pass under the disguise of squaring the deck, but you'll have to trial and error it as you practice.

I agree, that's pretty darn good and a slight rock up will cover the first action. Getting it non-jerky is the hardest part if you ask me. I found that my wrists, elbows and all sorts moved when they didn't need to.

As you can see from the video (oh what a good idea videos are), you're pointing your index finger, which could draw attention to the fact that you have moved under cover.

Squaring is a great cover. I am quite sloppy with my replacement so "need" to square the deck.

Again, the beauty of the camera that you can do this ...

In one video ... first, show the card, then square the deck, with no pass. Then do that again a few times. Then do your pass version couple of times. Then do a few alternates. This way, when reviewing the video (which was such a good idea) you can compare the natural and pretend squaring in one sitting.

So then the exercise becomes making the pass look like a natural action.

EDIT: I've given up trying to improve my rather sloppy pass after realising that it doesn't have to be totally invisible if you just do it whilst chatting and not looking at it.

That's the one tip that I found most useful about a pass - don't worry about making it invisible. Nobody's looking at the deck anyway if you do it right!

I'm not one for the classic pass. i can do it-decent-but i prefer my turnover.

i think the camera angle was a bit dodgy on that...from a specs angle (if you keep the cards quite low, and a bit of patter) i don't think they would notice it, specially if you cover the action by squaring up the deck.

Well, as a layperson (right now, not for long)... I thought that was pretty damn good. I don't know how you did it. It did look a little suspicious that you covered up the top card for a minute and jolted your hands... i don't know if that is part of doing the trick or not but if you could leave some of it showing and be a little more smooth it would look a little better i think.

But just wanted to let you know that the people you will be performing for (if they aren't magicians(or maybe magicians too... i dunno)) will think it looks really good!
