So say I have a deck of cards and I want to force an ace of spade, and the cards are placed starting from bottom : random card, ace of spade, rest of deck. Can anyone help me figure out how to force the ace of spade up to the top?

You cannot "force" an ace of spades to the top of the deck. You can shuffle it to the top, but that's not forcing it, that's shuffling it.

My suggestion is that you get Harry Lorayne's "The Magic Book," which will teach you some fine card handling skills (along with plenty of other stuff). Of course, fellow posting members will be along to tell you to pick up Wilson's "Complete Course in Magic," but something tells me that you'll be better served by the Lorayne book.

Just trust me on that.

Although any decent magic book should teach how to get the second from bottom card to the top.
