Most of the more learned of our ilk are known for having rather extensive libraries which can create a bit of a problem... the need for book shelves, etc.... but I believe I have a magical solution to such problems at hand...

I love cool DIY projects...
Probably going to make one out of each unneeded book I have, and end up only using 2-3 of them and have the rest sit in the back of my closet forever.

Same thing happened when I made a voodoo doll for a mentalism routine I came up with last month, I made one out of some used cloths and pillow fillings I had laying around from an old project. I started with making one doll, and ended up making 5 of them, getting better each time. So now I have 4 voodoo dolls that I don't use lying around in my closet.

Talking of unread books...

My wife recently made me have a cull of magic books and DVDs, as they were taking over the house. Even our bedroom was piled with books.

But she had a fair point: "But you don't even read half of them!"

What she said is partly true: lots of the books are there for reference only. Magic books aren't like novels which you read from cover to cover and then move on.

I don't fancy the invisible shelf tho. Knowing my DIY skills, I'd end up giving anyone who comes through the door full concussion.

This is very timely, Mrs.M has recently been making pointed remarks about the amount of magic books cluttering the house. Fortunately I've managed to neutralise a lot of the flak by quietly pointing to her stash of craft magazines, card making books, DVDs and so on but it's only a fragile truce at the moment and I expect full scale hostilities to surface very soon. Perhaps a few of these shelves high up on the wall of the spare room would allow me to appear to remove my excess stock. We have regular book sales at our local Church (all books 20p regardless of size and/or content!) and there are probably dozens of suitable books to use as the base. In fact, with a bit of computer wizardly I could probably disguise dull and boring books with more attractive and inspiring covers - cheers Craig!

i use those big old plasticy laundry bags that you get from pound shops to store all my books...they're nasty looking, but do the job...bit of bubble wrap and you're laughin'...

I have just decorated and was looking to put some shelves up but they can be so expensive.
I took a load of books to charity shops last year but still have a fair stack left.
I may even have the brackets kicking around.

Saved me a few quid there fella, nice one!

It might also be fun to glue a false hand (off a shop wimdow display dummy?) under the shelf book as though the stack was being supported by a disembodied hand!

I find the same with technical book. Some of them I've only read a few pages of, but those pages were essential.

If anyone's culling let us know, I'm sure tome of the old tomes are useful to us amateurs.

Speaking of computers and this particular bookshelf idea...

If you want to freak out your magic buddies, make certain the supporting shelf is one of the major "hard to get" collector type books that sell for thousands of dollars... it will seriously hurt their heads thinking your modified such a valuable tome in this manner.

The stuffed animal idea found at this link (scroll down) http://www.firebox.com/product/1538?src_t=hfp is quite cool as well... just change it over to a top hat and rabbit... and I love Mandrake's idea of the hand holding them up ala serving tray... that's rather cool... especially if you need an angle bracket for added support of the shelf due to weight.
