I NEED HELP

Postby Magic1Jim » Feb 6th, '07, 13:50

Ok here’s the problem that I’m having. I’ve always had magic on the brain but this last couple of months it’s all I can think about, I mean every time I see something I think to myself how could I work this into an effect. I picked up my sons dummy the other day and started to do some vanishes with it, IT’S A DUMMY. I just want to know if this is something other people have been through or am I just a tad weird. I keep thinking to myself I’m spending all this money on magic so maybe its about time I started to do something more with it.

Relax, you're not mad, merely alert and looking for opportunities to use items for magic or introduce magic to 'ordinary' situation. Mrs.M moans that on the rare occasions she gets me into shops with her, I'm always looking at the beakers, boxes, possibly hankies or other items which my fevered brain is trying to turn into magic. Just work on the basis that we're normal and the rest of humanity are missing the point  .

Firstly, yes, you are a tad weird but I think anyone who pursues magic is. And of course weird is a gloriously fantastic thing as it means difference and out of the ordinary.
Most people who become engaged in magic at some point do spend a good portion of their day thinking about it, practicing or performing (at least I do) and the reason for this is the love of the art.
As far as doing more with what it I suppose that is a question that only you can do anything about. What do you want from it?
I, for example, dream of going pro at some point in the future but the main point to remember is to keep the love of this wonderful art in you and to keep practicing both sleights, routines and performance.

I hope that isn't a load of nonsense

No it helped, the thought of going pro at somepoint maybe, but for now i just want to be recognised for the skills that i have come to learn. But the love for the art will always be there.

Once that little magic bug gets you it wont let go. I personally spend all day thinking and practising magic and thats from about 8am till about 7pm when i sit down and rest my hands and brain but you know what i couldnt have wished for a better hobby/job to do. I am like you to when im out im always looking for things to manipulate so maybe it is a tad wierd because its like an obsession but a good one. I am very wierd thoe im even trying to show my kids magic and one is six and he is autistic so he dont understand a thing and the other is one so he also dont understand anything and i think when i was bored the other night and mrs lindz was out i decided to show the cat a trick not that it made much difference but it made me feel better.

Right im gonna take my strange little self back to the padded cell.

It's nice to know I'm not alone, I involved my son in a card trick the other day he's not even two yet. It was meant to be a joke but everyone fell for it. I'll see you back on the ward

I work in an archaeology lab with a couple other people and a couple of days ago, as I was sorting through prehistoric ceramic and lithics, I noticed that I had just palmed two arrowheads without even thinking about it. Since we were all bored, I started doing vanishes with random artifacts. Like "hey, can you look at the castellations on this one...opps, where did it go?"

Needless to say, my co-workers think I am strange. :)
