Derren Brown- Smoke

Postby Magic_Drummer » Jan 20th, '07, 23:30

Well I finally reached that point in the book and I'm really excited to perform this after ample practise but for all of you who do this trick I'm wondering what deck I should buy to help me out with this trick...It mentions John Kennedy's Mind Power deck is that what I should buy? I was thinking that The Radar Deck may work as well but I'm not positive...Help me please. Thanks.

Trying not to give anything away here, but you don't actually need either to do this one. Mindpower will enable you to finish what seems to be clean. It's really about narrowing the percentages very efficiently indeed.

yes, very much so. Personally I would find smoke impractical to use reguarly (because I dont smoke for one reason!), but good luck with it anyway.

Can someone pm me if they use anything besides the mind power? Thanks guys, I appreciate your help...I want it to look as clean as his does...I don't think he uses the MP deck but he mentions that that is what we will need in order to perform it as seen...

the deck Derren uses is a specific-made one, ie to his own method
but the mind power is essentially the same as the one he uses. and it works for me!

Don't forget you can get the Mindpower with standard Bike back now so it doesn't look as odd when you pull it out after using bikes for previous tricks

In Devil's Picture Book, he says it's a Mindpower.

The method I regularly employ used a gimmicked deck. I printed onto blank stock, cards with indices that do not match at the corners................... A gimmicked deck is now available that will do this job very well with a little alteration; namely the Mind-Power Deck by John Kennedy. I would recomend the item unreservedly for anyone wishing to perform my effect.

Pure Effect, by Derren Brown, page 122, paragraph 3.

In Devil's Picture Book he actually uses a mind power deck, and shows how he disguises it by laying a red bicycle card on top of the pack so as to hide the backs of the mind power deck.

Have a look at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic1207.php for full details of disguising the old Mindpower deck and further coments. The Search function is a very useful tool at times  !
