Magnets under the skin! (and other body modifications)

Postby JamesJoystick » Feb 7th, '07, 06:49

Last nite, as I was trying to get some sleep and as many times before (Im sure this happened to others here too), I started to play around with magic trick concepts in my head. As far my greatest innovations that begun like this are footraven and signed card-through-sealead beer bottle (with full of beer!) that founds from the pub's frigde, but last nite I was thinking this so crazy idea it made me giggle.

Are there any magicians who have insterted some strenghty magnets under their skin? I mean, nowadays people put all sorts of crazy s*** on their skin like all kinds of piercings, and many sorts of"pearls" under the skin. Not to mention the "horns" people plant in their head.

Imagine how handy a magnet under the skin of the hand would be with coin sleights!
And all you do with wizard-ring you could now do with your bare hands!

Maybe there would be some not-so-handy situtations where you would be "the mystery credit card eraser", but hell, I like plain cash more anyways.

This topic could serve for other body modifications for magic too. I know in the movies the magicians have done odd pockets in their throat to hide keys and other kind of freaky stuff. Does anyone know are there any truthness on these things? And we all know what the magician had to do on "Prestige", but lets try not to spoil the movie.

And howabout tattoos? I'm sure alot of magicians have "Is this your card"-type of tattoos, like playing card tattooed on arm or something.

Let the mutilation begin!

I read somewhere (probably BMEzine) about a bloke that implanted a rare earth magnet under one of his finger tips.

One of the neat side effects of it was that he could feel magnetic fields. For example it would tingle neat a power cable or when he walked through those security gates in shops.

It did not last too long AFAIK though, only about six months before it broke up.

i have seriously considered a couple of things like this. from flesh pockets (imagine actually being able to do a total vanish with that!) to tatoos or scarification (imagine stigmata, but extreme!). i guess it's all down to how far you're willing to go for your art. i thought i'd never get a tatoo but since i've been into magic i've seriously considered having a card (or partial) scarred into my arm. perhaps one day i'll do it. (guess you could only perform that trick once to each person though)

Get a card tattooed onto the palm of your hand, then it won't look suspicious when you palm one.
Or you could get a load of 10p pieces tattooed onto your hand. This would create some very confusing coin work.

Just wondering, has anyone ever had an accident with piercings in private places and an M5 or something?
